Guided City Walking Tour of Newcastle

The tour offers more sights than some other tours of the beautiful city of Newcastle. On it you will hear about the history of the city from the Iron Age to present day, and also about some of the city's more interesting characters.

The tour is less than 4km, does include some steps, and some uneven pavement.

Please come prepared according to the weather forecast for that day.

In the event of bad weather, please contact me through the message option here on TripAdvisor to see if the tour is still going ahead. Weather cancellations will be very rare.

I wanted to post this review - although I’ve reviewed Hoochie Coochie before - because the world in 2020 is very different from the world as it was previously. This bar is noted for being a small venue, dedicated to soul and funk where you can dance and see live acts. On the face of it, reopening under COVID restrictions seemed a big ask. I’m pleased to say that the staff and owner have risen to the task and smashed it! It’s table service and reservations now (but that suits us anyway). The music is just the same, the staff are familiar faces who have just adapted perfectly and are as friendly as ever. Live music is coming back too! I’m afraid you can’t dance around anymore but foot tapping and table tapping is ok. Drinks are reasonable and service is great. It’s open weekends only at the moment so get in there!

Booth was booked by my friend Jo but cancelled due to mistake by management (already booked by someone else). However, this was made up for (by way of an apology) by having reserved seats and complimentary drinks. This place is unique. Lively, great music, friendly hard working staff and reasonably priced drinks. Fantastic atmosphere and well behaved customers. Will definitely be going back

After recently arriving in Newcastle me and a group of friends came to this bar for a drink. My boyfriend was refused entry due to “having too much to drink” he had 4 pints of low strength alcohol before trying to enter. There were many people going in and out who were clearly severely intoxicated but that appeared fine. I don’t think the door staff were a fan of gays. They seems very keen to look at the bottoms of females whilst ignoring anything said to them. I requested their door badge numbers so I could therefore contact licensing services on Monday regarding the issue. They refused to give me their badge numbers and threatened to make us unable to enter another bar in Newcastle if I kept “running my mouth”. This experience ruined what was meant to be a lovely night away and would now stop a group of us using the bar in future.

Apologies for your experience, but our door staff have been with us for over 9yrs & have some 60yrs experience of doors in Newcastle. We therefore have to rely on their judgement. Their responsibility is to ensure safety for all patrons. They therefore have to judge what is best for the venue.

Heard about this club a while ago but last night was our first visit. What can I say, from walking in you could feel the buzz. Everyone enjoying the music, great energy, some great dancers, didn't take long before we were joining in. Everyone was smiling all night. Great music, great vibe, great night out. Definitely will be back soon.

Heard a lot of good things about this place but was disappointed on my first visit on Friday night. The club itself was fine with friendly atmosphere, nice bar and staff but the main reason for my visit was to enjoy the music. I’d heard that it’s a good eclectic mix but was disappointed after hearing what the DJ had to offer, he played a handful of classic tunes that got people on their feet dancing, but then felt he had to complain to everyone over the mic afterwards about how much he hates that type of music! He would then play tunes in between that are fine if you were sat at home on a Sunday afternoon having a nap, but not sure it work’s for a Friday night out. He also loved the sound of his own voice and would happily chat away to whoever was stood in front of DJ booth over the microphone and drown out the music. I find it hard to believe that a place that market’s itself on how good the music is, would employ a DJ who’s soul purpose that night was to discourage people from enjoying themselves. We were not the only ones with this opinion on the night and saw a lot leave early including us.

Sorry to hear you were disappointed , our music policy has never intended to be mainstream over the last 10yrs & is not designed to suit everyone's taste. Different days offer a different style of music , dedicated to Jazz, Modern Soul, 80's Soul Northern Soul, Disco or house . Sat afternoons are more mainstream. Apologies over DJ chat we will speak to him :)
