At the Tyneside Cinema, we give a trip to the pictures the sense of occasion it deserves. We show the best films in stylish and beautiful surroundings, and our varied programme ranges from brilliant films from all over the world to the best Hollywood has to offer. As the last surviving Newsreel theatre still operating as a cinema full-time in the UK, our Grade II-listed building is an important, must-see piece of heritage, not just regionally, but nationally too and it has been lovingly restored to preserve and celebrate the grandeur of its original 1937 art deco design.

I came to watch It's a Wonderful Life before Christmas. It was my first time at the cinema (and also my first time watching the film!). The décor is lovely, the room we were in was beautiful, it felt like we were in an old theatre. Will hopefully be coming this Christmas too, would definitely recommend it to anyone!

This is a great place to watch a movie. The smaller screens are particularly good. It feels like cinema used to be 20 years ago - but with great screens and sound.

Came to the cinema and cage as a student in the 80s. Loved it more now! The cafe is excellent value, and very tasty. Now even better, great bar downstairs. It shows vintage pictures on a Sunday afternoon. The have plans to develop the alley way next to the cinema ( I remember standing in the rain waiting to see... More

Historic building, old world charm and busy coffee rooms with several entertainment cinemas under one roof. Satellite links for London plays and shows with fully accompanied exploration of building and history told each week by experienced guide free of charge. Not just a visit to the movies but an experience in the Hollywood tradition. Not to be missed if voting... More

Went in for a quick, quiet drink with friend and ended up meeting more family and friends. Great for impromtu and planned occasions. Staff always helpful and nothing is a problem.

Friendly cinema, great shows. Great little cafe and a good central meeting place. Went to see Jason Bourne and enjoyed it as always, my favourite Cinema.

We've been 'Friends of The Tyneside' for over three years and seen most of the major movies for very cheap prices. Jason Bourne last night cost only £6. Great bar and restaurant in both down and up stairs. The beer isn't the cheapest in town which is a pity, but the film experience is excellent. If they sold draught Leffe... More

Went to see a movie on a rainy day. Wonderful historic cinema with friendly staff. Little quirks like some candy for the kids and a raffle for free tickets (which we won but gave to a local couple b/c we would be leaving). Although we didn't use it, the coffee bar seemed very nice too.

Great cinema, friendly and shows some different, interesting films. Went to see a charming Japanese film, Sweet Bean with my beloved. Also show mainstream stuff too. Great venue too for food, drink and socialising.

A great cinema - make sure you buy tickets for a film in the main cinema if you want to see the lovely art deco room (as there is more than one screen available). We paid extra for a sofa seat upstairs - wish more cinemas had this innovation, it was very comfortable! We saw "Jack Bourne" and very much... More
