This cinema is often very busy, being situated in the Gate complex in the centre of Newcastle. Prices are fairly standard - up to around £7.25 for an adult, but with fairly decent discounts for students. The cinema itself is pleasant, although a little nondescript, and the screens are good. Snacks are overpriced as is typical in all cinemas. If you can go on a Tuesday when tickets are only £3.25!

I visited the cinema during October half term with my three kids and have to say I could of been away for the weekend just about after the cost of the tickets. Then to my astonishment for 4 small hotdogs and 4 drinks (one of them was only a fruitshoot) cost me another £25!! So our 2hour film experience cost £50 which I think is terrible no wonder people decide to wait for films to come out on dvd! Its kind of put me off going regularlytp the cinema again with the kids. So I would recommend you take your own food and drink.

Was in town for work this week and came here twice. Different rooms each time. Both were VG. Screens were good as was sound quality. Staff were very pleasant. Only taking one mark off due to the prices, not just this cinema but all of them. I suppose it's just the economics of the business. Low attendance means hey need to make the most of the customers who turn up. Cinema is still way better than TV

Just 5 minutes from the train station, the cinema is very well situated. I went to see the original Rocky movie; would have gone to see all 5 but cinemas crammed them all into one week instead of spreading them over 4 or 5 weeks. I wasn't sure if i was going to like it but i did enjoy it and really liked the unusual grainy image. £4 to see the film I thought was a real bargain and i liked their choice of flavors milk shake which was £4.50. Bargain!

Terrible the manager becky had a right attitude after we had you put all our popcorn and hotdogs and slushes back after not allowing my daughter in to see venom after booking online. We spent almost 100 pound on 4dx tickets and food and had to wait 5 days to get money back. There was no one to greet you in the cinema, the staff have no life in them behind the counter. Took ages to get served. No other choices were given when told we couldn't watch what we had booked. Spoilt our day as kids were looking forward all weekend. Manager came across smarmy and cheeky. Never again. Had been to odeon the day before and had a lovely experience there.

Paid £20 for two of us to watch tenet (not the best movie over hyped)
We got two coffees and two sandwiches from costa £15 Not worth it.

Bought a bag of sweets normally £1 but cost us £3.65p

If you are trying to attract people back to the Cinemas "don't be greedy".

I paid the price but felt the whole experience was not worth it.

I wont be going back to there again.

I have just came back from seeing Bad Boys For Life. And it was a slog. The film was great but the problem was - there were quite literally 40 minutes worth of trailers on before the film. In the middle of the 40 mins worth of trailers, there was even a sarcastic message on the screen saying "do you think we are finished with the trailers, we are only just getting started". I will say it again. 40 minutes worth of trailers. Bad Boys is on for 2hrs 15mins and therefore I was in the cinema for just under 3hrs.

When you go to the Tyneside Cinema around the corner they have just four trailers. Consisting of 2 adverts (usually one is for whisky) and two movie trailers and that is it. 8-10mins at most.

After 30mins of the trailers here today I honestly felt like getting up and going home I was that drained.

It cost me over £10 for this ticket and for that I had to endure 40mins worth of trailers. It took away from my experience considerably.

Would leave zero stars but no option, so left one. Tried to book online all day, system not loading. Rang I believe their call centre, foreigners who couldn't understand, first one cut me off, second one said NO bookings over phone. Then rang number listed for directly to ring the one in Newcastle, number not even connected!! Such hard work is unbelievable, they DON'T deserve our custom!!!

Saw 'Don't Breathe' here on Saturday 8/10/16 in Studio C. Went to the 9.45 pm showing. Took my 15 year old son with me. We were staying the weekend in Newcastle.

I don't normally give a place a bad review unless it's really bad. This was really bad!

The carpets throughout the cinema look really filthy. There was a bad smell outside the studios, like a stale tobacco smell. This was clearly evident and this appalled my son. This area was really untidy with litter clearly on view, like wrappers and bits of popcorn

The toilets outside Studio C looked like they hadn't been cleaned all day, broken toilet paper holder inside a cubicle too.

I went to the main area to buy some drinks and food and was shocked at the state of the service area. Popcorn and spilt drink all over the service desk. Found this quite shocking!!

Inside Studio C was no better. This looked liked it hadn't been cleaned from the last showing.

Really dissapointing that such a major cinema chain could allow this to happen. C'mon Empire, I'm sure you are better than this!!!

I usually enjoy this cinema but unfortunately I feel like it is going down hill. The only positive thing I can say is that the staff are friendly but I have to say that they sell the worst nachos I've ever had the misfortune of eating!

My friend and I went to see Bridget Jones's Baby and as my friend had just finished work and I was peckish and we didn't have time to grab a meal beforehand, we opted for nachos at the cinema. I'd had these on previous visits and I remembered that they were okay, not quite Odeon standard who are the king of nachos, but edible nonetheless. However on this occasion the tortilla chips were incredibly stale, as if they'd been sitting around all week, they were so hard that I gave myself a headache eating them, the cheese had no taste and the garlic sauce was cheap. All in all they were vile and inedible. I only ate mine because I was hungry and had paid the best part of £10 for them.

I also can't help but feel like compared to other cinemas in the area that this is looking outdated now, the screens are old and a bit scruffy and the carpets are always full of popcorn, the seats aren't comfortable and there's not much leg room, I think this is in need of a refurbishment! The actual screens themselves are dusty and the sound system is pants!

Never again will I be returning here or if I do I'll avoid the nachos! My advice? Stick to the Odeon where you're guaranteed good nachos or try the Vue in Cramlington which is very modern. Anything beats this place!
