- Ann CNashville, Tennessee3,238 contributionsThe Church of St Peter & St Paul LavenhamThe church is an excellent example of late perpendicular gothic architecture perched on a hill above the town of Lavenham. The carvings and paneling above I found to be of high quality. The roof on the south isle is the original. The scenes on the font were unfamiliar to me and I am curious to research the history/meaning. One example seen here are 2 musicians, a male and a female with hindquarters of animals.Visited March 2023Written April 2, 2023
- Experience5977194 contributionsYou cannot miss visiting this church while you are in LavenhamI live here!!! Two of my daughters got married here! All four daughters were in the church choir when they were young! It is a beautiful church. Not at all "spooky" like so many are. You can even buy second hand books here which are carefully arranged. There is a also a very small self-serve gift shop and a play area for young children. If you want to attend a church service on Sunday mornings, you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, cake and biscuits. At present there is an art exhibition.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten August 14, 2023

Absolutely stunning church and one of the best know of the famous Suffolk wool churches. Had a nice time looking around. While a bit of a hike from the Guildhall, it's well worth the effort.

Marvellous architecture with a fabulous ambience not too busy when we went so plenty of time to take in the history. Great charity second hand book sale easy to lose an hour just looking through the books. A must visit if in Lavenham. Only shame that the tower is closed.

Iām afraid I canāt tell you about the architecture or history of this beautiful building, and I have no idea what the services are like.
What I can tell you is if you love books, you have to pay it a visit! They have a large section of books for sale, every genre under the sun. All are used and donated and are paid for on the honour system by slipping cash or cheque through a slot.
Recently, they have begun separating out the beautifully bound books that collectors love so itās no longer necessary to hunt for them.
The photo is from my most recent trip. Another handful of delightful books!!! One particularly delightful tiny treasure in the mix.
I must make it a more regular stop!

Stumbled across this beautiful church whilst on a day trip to Southwold. A gem of the 15th century with a surviving medieval choir screen and a host of other wonderful original features.

This is probably one of the largest and most beautiful churches I have ever visited; just on the outskirts of Lavenham it is well worth visiting if in the town. Historically the wool industry provided great wealth for Lavenham and this is reflected in the size, workmanship and grandeur of just about everything in relation to this church...the stained glass windows, the wood carving. Everything is truly amazing
As a free admission venue, although gratuities are accepted, this is a must visit venue. If you have youngsters there is a large mat play area where there are toys to keep them occupied....a great idea!!!

Lavenham was the heart of the wool industry in time gone by and the rich merchants built a cathedral style church in the village to show off their wealth. It is spectacular and definitely worth a visit.
