- Bernard SLondon, United Kingdom104 contributionsDefinitely must visitBrilliant. Well worth visiting. A really interesting place. We were welcomed with a free face to face introduction by a very knowledgeable guide. Then we could walk around the hall at our leisure. The Hall has a fascinating history dating back well over 500 years. There are a really large number of excellent exhibits, all signposted and explained.Visited April 2023Written April 2, 2023
- DUNCAN KCullercoats, United Kingdom9 contributionsBack in timeA warm welcome was received from the lady in the south wing which had the gift shop and entrance. The house was interesting and it was possible to see how it had evolved over time . The house was furnished with numerous items and belongings collected by the owners from their extensive travel around the world in the late nineteenth and twentieth century.. Only negative point was the volunteer person who was on duty in the dining room on the day of my visit. I was visiting as a solo and the lady was in conversation with a couple when l entered the room and when finished the lady ignored me and started a conversation with a couple who entered the room about 3 minutes after me . Bad manners. Left a poor impression.Visited June 2023Traveled soloWritten July 5, 2023

- cortontrader240 contributionsLovely building dating from the 14th centuryThis is a lovely building dating from the 14th century and has a fascinating history. One of the volunteer guides gave a brief explanatory talk and told us that until 16th/17th century the building would have had open fires and no chimney. You can still smell the smoke in the upper room! Twin military brothers lived in the house last century and their influence on the building is told well by the guide and contents of the house. This helps bring it to life. I really enjoyed this visit; actually it is much more interesting than the Guildhall across the roadVisited September 2023Traveled soloWritten September 28, 2023

A most beautiful house that has been used for many purposes in history. Magnificent attention to detail inside but currently not open to the public. The beautiful gardens are open, weather permitting and you can see the full wonder of this superb building. A hidden jewel of Lavenham.

It’s amazing - a must see, much more interesting than the Guildhall which is quite anodyne. There was an American tour guide who was absolutely charming and told us the story behind this beautiful house. If you don’t come away wishing you lived there, I’ll be very surprised!

Such a lovely place – an interesting short spoken over view of the house in the main dining room, and then allowed to wander the house and lovely garden. A fascinating insight into what is behind the timber frames. So worth a visit.

Gorgeous house to visit in Lavenham. Very knowledgeable guides, all of whom seem to be locals. Lovely rooms to browse with artefacts, books, historical records and pictures. A definite must if passing through. Lovely gardens too.

This is another fascinating small 'museum' in Lavenham. Entirely run by volunteers, the opening hours are limited but it's worth making the effort to visit.
We opted for a full introductory chat by the friendly volunteer who was totally interesting and enthusiastic about the history. She gave the background to the origins of the house and how it evolved over the past years. She also highlighted where a lot of the 'artifacts' came from and what to look out for whilst looking around. It was worth taking the time to listen to her and it made our visit more enjoyable.
The garden is lovely - particularly on a sunny day.
Visit and support the preservation of Lavenham's historic past.

The building is a lovely restoration of the original, full furnished in keeping with the age of the building, which is over two floors. Some of the headroom and stairs are a little tight, but worth the visit.

My friend is in a manual wheelchair. How easy is access? It's more mobile than an electric one and not as bulky.

When we visited, there were no facilities for accessing the 1st floor. The building is a very old building and I would advise you to contact them directly regarding your friends need.
