We parked in the free carpark off the A689 and followed the Wynyard Woodland Walk loop all the way to the busier cafe/play area. We then walked back directly up along the Castle Eden Walkway, which was slightly faster. Allow around 2 hours for this route at a leisurely stroll.
Paths were muddy in October after all the rain, but better the farther you walked from the cafe area, as obviously gets less foot traffic. The routes are all completely flat so very easy walking, although not wheelchair friendly. Castle Eden Walkway is a straight route and easy walk as follows the old railway line, going underneath several picturesque old stone bridges along the way.
We visited for an autumnal walk through the woods and the leaves were beautiful shades of yellow and orange, but with plenty of green left in places too.
We walked past the Observatory (near cafe) for the first time and I was surprised at just how small this is! Attached a few photos. Closed at the moment due to Covid19. The play area near to here looked fun though!

Sunny but cold January morning. Excellent walk with the dog, plenty of people around, enjoyed passing the time of day. At the end we had a decent coffee from a fairly inanimate staff member - shame about the latter.

Visited in May with the grandsons for a bike ride & was surprised to find the lovely train carriages on the old station platform & the great facilities in the park, the boys had a wonderful visit & didn’t want to leave.
We visited on Friday 4th June as part of our couples bike ride & were surprised at how quiet it was, it really is a gem of a find & not too crowded, quite an easy 7.5 mile ride too for those who don’t like main roads, however the amount of fauna & flora do make it a dark walk. There are very limited bins along the way, so be a gem & take your litter home with you or place it in the bins at the park, along with your dog poo, other than that, have a really enjoyable visit!

Our first visit and won’t be our last!
Selected this place as a half way point to meet up with my son and young grandchildren .
Lots of FREE parking and green spaces.
We enjoyed the play areas ( although maybe more equipment needed for under 3s? )
Ate a picnic on one of the many benches ,then enjoyed a walk along the old track noticing all the wild primroses on the banks.
Finished off with an ice cream at the old station.
Very clean and well maintained place.

I really like the woodland walk and think it is great for people of all ages. However the grumpy older woman who works in the cafe detracts from the visit. I think she is rude and has few customer skills. She comes across as hating her job and making sure everyone knows it. Not just my view. A friend has found the same quite independently from my opinion. I suggest she is moved to a post where she is in the kitchen only and doesn't need to interface with the public as she is certainly putting me off going in there. Or she stops taking out her bad mood on others!

Absolutely terrible attitude of staff. Very rude and unwelcoming.
After asking for an explanation of what was available, we couldn't wait to leave and will never go back. The grumpy woman that was in charge obviously couldn't be bothered with customer's!

Who are these people in the council who insist on changing the names of places to meet their contrived marketing attempts. Are they even from Stockton. Castle Eden walkway - why the attempt to make it associated with Wynyard.

Having cycled here for many years I was disappointed to see Stockton Council have installed metal barriers which are awkward to get through with a cycle and just look so out of place, their reason for installing is to prevent horses and motorbikes, none of which I have seen in over 20yrs of cycling here. As this route is part of the National Cycle Network more thought should have gone into installing something cycle friendly, this has now spoilt what was a great place to cycle.

Really enjoyed walking along the old railway line. Lots of little passages to venture off into if your feeling adventurous. Ideal for everyone, walkers, bikers and dog walkers. 😁😁

I have been coming here since I was a child. Ive ran, cycled, walked and explored just about every nook and cranny of the walks in and around here. The great thing about this place is its on the doorstep of a lot of towns, though its also in the middle of the countryside too. It is a great resource for tens of thousands of people every year that use it. You can come for a mooch about and spend an hour watching the ponds, or you can use this place as a start point for a road free cycle ride to Sunderland, Hartlepool and even Redcar. There is a playgbround for children to enjoy, and make sure you and your family pay a visit to the planetarium.

To my mind it has always been known as the castle Eden walkway, its typical of stockton council to hijack the place

What’s the length of the walk? Are there other routes and do they link back to the car park?

Staying on the straight where the train tracks used to be we walked for about 3 miles but could have gone further. Yes there is other routes to take which are more up and down, good exercise really we do it often and they lead back to the car park. Hope this helps.

Hi I come to the old railway cafe regularly on my bike with friends. I have to say the two women serving are at the best very cold and unpleasant. We have started to visit the pub in the village for a break. Could someone ask them what their problem is. Out of 5 stars it gets a 2.5 only because the food is nice.

Can I ride my bike from Wynyard village to the woodland park without having to cycle along the busy A689 dual carriageway?
