Took the kids for a two hour stand up paddle board lesson yesterday and both them and us as spectators had a fantastic time .
The instructor was great, with just the right mixture of fun and professionalism to hold together enthusiastic learners who regularly fall in 😀.
The changing rooms are closed at the moment because of COVID-19 , so make sure you bring big towels to protect your modesty and park in the corner of one of the car parks, because that’s where you’ll be getting changed.
Remember to complete your on line assessment before attending to make it easier to get started.
If you are looking for something new for the kids to try out , you can’t go wrong with this great value for money experience . Thanks again to the team . Highly recommend.

Booked our 15 & 11 year old kids on a 2 hour beginner Kayaking session, they loved it. Booked online and completed the online medical forms, they were met by their instructor, Callum. They were given a helmet and life jacket and a quick safety talk before going onto the water to practice skills before heading up river for skills and games. Callum was a great instructor and they had a fantastic time. They want to try the paddle boarding next time.

Fantastic day out with my wife and our 2 teenagers (16 & 18) Great instruction from the guys and plenty of thrills and spills. Yes you will get wet. Yes you will fall in. Not for the fainthearted or anyone scared of water. 2 hours of white water rafting. We all had a great time and would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to do something a little out of the ordinary. (Wet suits, life jackets and helmets were all supplied)

Terrible today charged full price and conveyor not working although not advertised as not working and they new it was before putting course on.
Charged full price
Flow poor to start and appeared screws were generating power ?
Course a mess sharp brambles at edges which could damage dry tops
Safety low priority here, stone walkways not jet washed slip risk, debris left on conveyor trip hazard.
It needs someone to take ownership of the course and maintain it every day.
Sorry to moan, but come on tees active and british waterways get your act together.

FANTASTIC kayaking experience for 8 boys aged 10/11 - thank you to Kyle! Kyle greeted us enthusiastically upon arrival for a kayaking party and took charge of the boys. Kyle was excellent at explaining to the boys how to wear and use the equipment, and he ensured they all had a great fun and safe kayaking experience at Tees Barrage. Thank you, Kyle!

Great leaders for both rafts - we got to go down both the long and short courses several times. We were a group of 4 and had 2 others join us to fill the raft - all were made to feel very much at ease and to work together as one team. Fantastic experience down the rapids! Don't expect clear/clean water! It's from the barrage / river. There are showers (cold!) for afterwards. No food available so bring some with you as you will be hungry afterwards...

We most recently walked past/through Tees Barrage as we hiked the Teesdale Way - our 3rd stretch took us from Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge to Stockton town centre, following the River Tees.
The walk was very scenic with soft snow on the ground, as had recently had a heavy snow storm. So we can recommend walks around here in winter and in summer! Paths around the barrage are all very good, suitable for prams and wheelchairs. The barrage can be busy as is popular with local families, but its large enough that people can spread out to get some space too. No facilities were open when we visited in January 2021 due to covid.

We went on a low flow night and the flow went from non existing for the first hour building gradually to full normal flow by the end, which was too much for beginners. They would have struggled with the conditions. They did put extra time on but people had to be away. They have to do better down at the barage, it’s a shame because there were plenty of people down there.

We went as a group of 5 & we all had the best time. Our instructor Jake was amazing, the white water rafting itself was awesome, really good fun but Jake out our minds at ease & had us laughing from start to finish. Would recommend for anyone to go. Would absolutely go back again.

Place is nowlooking very tired and in places shabby. Needs some tlc and a coat of paint. Very popular with dog walkers. Did notice opposite the what appears to be the control centre some inconsiderate parking from someone who should give their head a shake. Had parked so close to one of the emergency bouyancey aids the door could not be opened for acess to the equipment. Priceless.
