Hanley Park and the adjacent Cauldon Grounds are open to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The park is staffed most days from morning until late afternoon, and we welcomed around 922,000 visitors during 2014.

Cauldon Grounds first opened in 1894, and were followed by the larger Hanley Park in 1897. Both were designed by the up-and-coming landscape architect Thomas Mawson, helping to cement his international reputation. Hanley Park's listed status has recently been upgraded to II* in recognition of its importance.

The two parks continue to be the focus of many exciting developments. The park has now been awarded £4.5m funding for a once-in-a-lifetime restoration project. The most visible work is set to take place from spring 2016. This is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund through their Parks for People Programme, and there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.

Things to see and do in the park

- Art features, including 'Love Ties' sculpture by Emily Campbell

- Grade II* listed historic landscape, including bandstand, terrace garden, pavilion, lake, Doulton fountain (in Cauldon Grounds) and views across the park towards Stoke Minster.

- Crown green bowling green

- Fishing (the park is classed as 'community water,' and all are welcome to fish responsibly with a valid Environment Agency rod licence

- Three exciting play areas: toddler, sensory, and adventure (including aerial slide)

- Picnic area

- Free-of-charge sports zone including: all-weather floodlit sports court, cricket wicket and nets, tennis courts, basketball hoops and a multi-use sports court.

- Toilets (open during staffed hours).

I took my dog to the park as I was staying at the North Staffs. I was very impressed with it indeed. It was a lovely place to spend time with my dog. The small and large water birds and the lake and fountains in the lake were beautiful. Well done Stoke you are doing a great job.

Hanley Park used to be a grand old Park with boats on the lake and a cafe. Then it fell into disrepair. For a brief period in the 90's we had a Lord Mayor Mike Wolfe and he spent money on the park adding fountains to keep the lakes clean....relocating some of the Canada Geese and he included art projects...words... I used to live very near here when I was a student, we recently visited for the first time in years and I'm afraid it has gone downhill. There was a lot of drunks arguing at 10am, the buildings near the canal seem to be falling apart, a couple of new playgrounds have been built for children but otherwise the... More

Big park, lots of space. Kids play area, bowling green, tennis courts, lake. Bit run down but can see improvements being made. Sometimes festival/carnival on.

We went to watch Stoke City play, but wanted to catch something out of Stoke so the short walk from the train station to the park was just what we were looking for. We liked the versatility of the place and the chance to chat with locals - a good memory!

The layout of the park and the multitude of different areas is wonderful and especially suited to families. There is renovation work currently under way which is a moot point in my review. My main issues with the park on my last visit were; the sheer amount of litter everywhere, including in the lake which as a result smelled foul.... More

I remember coming here as a child, when it was a beautifully laid out park and gardens, and always looked immaculate. The basic structure is still there, and it's still a nice place to stroll, but local government funding cuts have inevitably hit places like this and it's a shadow of its former self. It's a shame.

Came on a Saturday morning to join in the Parkrun. Haven't been to the park in a really long time. Great route planned out, really nice, well kept park. Hope to be back on a regular basis to do more runs.
