Budget food with expansive view

A place to return to often. It is modest. Yet well worth a visit. I frequently use it as somewhere to bring an elderly person who wants a lunch out. Particularly if I suspect they will want to offer to pay. It is so reasonable. Then the view is outstanding.

Nice way to spend a day
Aug 2021
Lovely place to visit. Nice flat pathway around the lakes, easy to navigate if you are unsteady on feet and need a walking aid. Nice to se the barges on the canal. Plenty of parking which is free but I understand the council may place a charge on it. That will be a shame as |i saw lots of families with their children their out and abut in the fresh air. we had some snacks in the cafe which was clean and reasonably priced. Food was good. You can hire a bike here too, and ones for disabled people. Toilets were clean but only open when cafe is open. A nice way to spend the day..

Nice way to pass some time

My wife and I walk up to Westport Lake every few weeks and enjoy a few laps. The place is well maintained and we always manage to spy some wildlife - and not just the ducks, geese, and swans. A lap of the entire site only takes us about 20-30 mins. There is a car park for anyone driving up, but beware, the council plan to start charging for parking. The site has a visitor centre, cafe, and play park for kids.

Lovely day

I went here for a walk around the lake and a visit to the playground with my grandson.
We went into the cafe for a snack which I believe has recently re opened.
The staff were lovely and helpful and we felt very safe as they had a one way system in place and sanitised the customer area regularly.
My grandson had a children’s meal deal and I had a very nice jacket potato which was hot and tasty.
A big well done to the staff.

Not much point being there if you’re not open

No point in having a visitor centre which is closed on a bank holiday!! Very poor show RSPB you can’t be that interested in bird welfare

Take your own food

Cafe is rather expensive and next time we come here we will bring our own food and drinks. The lake itself is very nice shame about the cafe prices.

Very expensive and nothing special.

Go here often for a walk and let my son play. He wanted something to eat and drink, boy expensive, could have gone to a restaurant and been comfortable. Real pity.

A lovely experience for all ages and times of the year
Jan 2020
My partner and I visit this lovely lake year-round, but found it just so uplifting and refreshing today... It is such a well-maintained park with safe and stable walking paths, pretty views and some wonderful wildlife to be seen, even in winter. The Visitor Centre is mostly dedicated to a well appointed cafe with more lovely views of the lake. The Trent and Mersey Canal runs alongside for some distance and there are usually plenty of pretty narrow boats travelling along it, or moored nearby. If you have children to entertain the playground is well-maintained as well and as it's fenced it is safe for children of all ages, alongside it you'll find an open space which is perfect for kicking around a football, playing catch or flying a kite! There is a hire centre by the lake which provides wheelchairs for people with special needs, too... I believe there were once mines and buildings here, the only sign of the industrial past today are the bottle ovens on the horizon and the fascinating derelict buildings if you chose to walk along the canal tow path... Highly recommended to people of all ages!

Stunning views of Westport Lake and lots of birds and wildlife.
Great coffee and cakes and an outdoor deck seating area overlooking the lake.

We visited for a walk around the lake. The car park is free. The visitor centre has a small cafe and a small selection of merchandise on sale.

The lakeside walk is pleasant and will change through the seasons. The paths are well managed and flat, the whole walk is about 1 Mike in length. We saw a Heron, Great Crested Grebes, Swans and ducks on our visit.

There is a children’s play area by the car park which attracts a lot of families!
