Our third visit in four years to take the Amerton Railway train to to North Pole to see Santa. This year we took our children and other family, all the children (1, 3, 3, 5, 6, 9) loved the experience. The train ride is just long enough for small children, with an activity sheet to keep than occupied as a bonus. Full station experience with friendly ticket office and platform staff, steam and whistles, what more could you ask for (apart from snow, not this year but was really beautiful the year we were lucky enough to get snow!) Santa was on top form, friendly and keen to listen, and enthusiastic helpers assisting with refreshments and delivering gifts. Gifts aren't expensive, but perfectly appropriate and the children were all pleased with them. Finished off with a family photo in front of the steam locomotive...a lovely experience! Excellent value for the family, with plenty of other things to do at Amerton if you want to make a day of it.

Thank you very much for your kind review. We are running Santa Specials again this year, slightly changed due to COVID-19 but with the same amount of magic!

An enjoyable day out with small children. The train ride to visit santa was ok but a little too long to wait once they saw Santa. Santa goes down the carriages and talks to all the children and gives out presents. But it was worth it to see the look on the grandchildrens faces when Santa spoke to them. Would visit again.

Hello Glenda, first we're so glad your grandchildren enjoyed the experience. We're sorry about the wait times but occasionally one or two of the children may talk to Santa a little longer than usual, and he's too lovely not to listen. This year we have reduced the total number of passengers on the train which will reduce wait times and hopefully be the icing on the cake!

Weren't impressed at all 5 min train ride and nothing christmassy about it 😒 nothing magical to make it special. We had santa come to the train doors which also weren't very magical. The presents were ok probably the only half decent thing about it.

Hello, We are sorry that you didn't find our Santa Specials enjoyable. We receive very few negative remarks about our Santa experience, as a volunteer-run charity it is important to us to maintain a high quality experience for our guests. I would have hoped you would've shared your comments with us on the day in order for us to try and remedy the situation.

Visited with our Grandchildren to have a ride on their Santa Special train. We had a lovely time and the children loved it too. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The mince pies were nice and warm! I’m sure we will all go back next year

Where to begin? Railway opened 10 minutes late. The man who unlocked the gate was very rude to a young child who was just interested in what he was doing. Then, when we got to the ticket office, the woman there said that the card machine wasn't working, despite the sign clearly displaying that cards were accepted. When we queried this, she brushed us off by saying that we could get 'cash back' if we bought something in the shop. Worst of all, she displayed no concern whatsoever with how she was disappointing our son. Overall, the staff need some serious training on customer service, especially when there are several other railways around Staffordshire that know how to look after their young guests.

We have responded to this case privately, however our card facilities are reliant on a very poor quality farm telephone line which doesn't always stand up to heavy usage. We are currently working on implementing a fibre broadband connection to the railway to ensure our card facilities are more reliable. Our volunteers are just that, volunteers, we are all a very friendly bunch but occasionally something may come across in a way it was not intended, for which I apologise. I hope this has not deterred you from visiting again in the future.
