A Real Gem
We spent part of a Sunday afternoon sampling the delights on offer. Fine selection of ales and I was allowed to try a sample of the rather tempting locally brewed Yoxall cider. A real gem of a place with pleasant, professional and knowledgable staff.

THE best pub in Lichfield. James is a lovely chap, super knowledgeable and friendly. Always a great atmosphere and fab selection of casks and craft ales. Also dog friendly which is an absolute win! By far, our favourite place to go in Lichfield.

THE best pub in Lichfield. James is a lovely chap, super knowledgeable and friendly. Always a great atmosphere and fab selection of casks and craft ales. Also dog friendly which is an absolute win!

upon entry , noticed not many there ?. after looking at ales /ciders avalable placed order.....only then told cash only - pointing to a small notice at END of bar. not a card person , my wife paid by her card reluctantly. sitting down annoyed at this , the same happened to another couple. this notice should be more prominent at the FRONT OF BAR or upon entry.
whist drinking noticed 2 dogs in pub , then another couple entered with another dog ?. now feeling out of comfort zone , looking at floor noticed how much dog hair on floor + mat in doorway. - when was this place last cleaned ????
neither wife / myself left unimpressed......not to returning.

The best micro pub going

We went as a group of 4 for the first time and were more than impressed with this charming micro pub.
With a fantastic choice of 4 LOCAL BEERS to choose from with a good range of volume between them we tried all 4 and all were more than first class.
The place its self was busy with no less than 20 in at any time, the owner was very cheerful and friendly and his partner as well , they made you feel so very welcome and with us been CAMRA Members we got a 10p discount off a pint as well.
They also do a large hand raised pork pie at a very reasonable price £2.50 which we did not have but looked very nice.
There was a great atmosphere all the time we were there and we will be back for sure.
If you are a REAL ALE DRINKER and want a pub where there is NO MUSIC blasting out or game machines going on then this place as to be tried and you wont come away without saying
" WE WILL BE BACK FOR SURE !!!!!!!!"

Great little pub always a great choice of Ales very friendly Deb & Paul are great people whoever you are they will always make you feel welcome have been a few times now and are never disappointed keep up the good work guys you doing great!!!!!!!!!

Yet another enjoyable night at the Whippet fantastic beers and outstanding scotch eggs it feels just like a great pub should feel, everyone talks to one another and people move so that you can get to the bar and get served its service with a smile by staff that know their beers

As with some other reviews it took us a little time to try this little treasure...oh boy if only we had known! A truly proper pub like pubs should be, great beer which is so well kept, served in proper beer glasses makes this a great place to watch the comings and goings of the vary varied clientele.
Yes it is small but that just adds to the charm. As yet we haven't tried the cobs - we have taken to calling in on route to a meal out somewhere, although I suspect it is just a question of time.

Hidden treasure

I was not aware of this micropub until advised by a colleague at work. Peaceful with no fruit machines or other distractions to spoil the tranquility. It really is like walking into somebody's front room and settling down to a nice pint with the best cheese and onion on a crusty cob that I have ever tasted. Followed that up with another tasty ale and a ham cob on a soft roll that was nearly as enjoyable as the cheese one. There were also exotic scratchings and crisps available but I had no room left after the 2 large cobs. Good choice of tasty ales and ciders to enjoy and it was very pleasant to just sit in the quiet and watch the world go by. Followed all this up with a walk round the wonderful cathedral to end a perfect day.

Don't whizz past Whip in!

Being a real-ale fan and resident of the fabled three-spired city I'm annoyed that I've only just discovered the delights of the compact and bijou Whippet Inn micropub in Lichfield. A choice of 4 or 5 real ales on tap all priced at a reasonable £2.80 a pint! A good old-fashioned pub that predominately just sells real ale and bar snacks with NO lager or spirits! The only problem I foresee is that it could become a victim of it's own success as being on the small side of titchy may not be able to cope with the coach-loads of beer hunters when the word get round!
