Yesterday with my friend I went to the Plough. She recommended it to me after an excellent Sunday lunch she had with her family a couple of weeks earlier.

From the minute we walked in we had a lovely warm welcome from Lucy. The place was clean and had lovely ambient lighting. It was busy but not full, so felt comfortable in these times of Covid. Everything as it should be. The two members of staff who looked after us were most attentive.

Then the food arrived and my goodness I could not believe that was perfect too.

The most lovely fresh fish with perfect chips and minted mushy peas and tartare sauce in little vessels. With a whole half a lemon to drizzle over my non greasy battered Fish. Heavenly.

We had no room for dessert, but forced ourselves to share one and my goodness the chocolate & orange cheesecake was awesome.

What more can I say other than well done the Plough you are one awesome establishment who Endeavour and succeed in looking after your customers in every way.

Can't wait for a return visit.

Despite the snow we had a lovely Sunday roast brought to our door.
Generous portions with lots of vegetables
So good to see local business working so hard to keep going through these difficult times.
THANK YOU!

Lovely roast, great value for money. Under new management and a really lovely pub with friendly staff and a great canal side location. Well worth a visit.

Not enough staff
Feb 2020
Have been many times - previous reviews all good.
Came on Valentines Day Lunch.
New ownership.
Not enough staff - previous owners had plenty of staff - service always quick and friendly.
Credit Card machine not working - so delays ordering and paying - and lack of staff made this worse.
Sad - this is a great pub in a great location - but needs to be invested in.
Menu also much more limited than on previous visits at lunch

Not as good as it used to be and needs to improve

Wow this place has changed since new people took over. Normally when we come on a Friday early evening, the place is busy and takes a while to get a drink but not now, no atmosphere and it feels depressing
They don’t serve food all day either which is disappointing
I’m all for people being given a chance and a few weeks to settle in but they are in danger of losing customers at an alarming rate
Very disappointed.

Nowhere near what it was
Feb 2020 • Couples
We used to come to The Plough once a month for Sunday lunch. It was our favourite place for a roast with astonishingly good food.

Unfortunately what was an exceptional pub has, in 48 hours since changing hands, had its menu changed. It is now poor.

The quality of the food was nowhere near what it used to be and the portions for a Sunday Roast were tiny. Mistakes were made (stuffing omitted from the dish despite it being listed in the menu) and what was served lacked significantly in quality and quantity compared to what we would have received just a week earlier.

We’re really upset to lose our favourite pub and can’t comprehend why such poor decisions have been made in two days since it changed hands. Would no longer recommend.

This was our second time here. We parked the motorhome on the nearby marina. Wandered to the plough with our dog. The staff here are knowledgeable and sincere. They accommodate dogs, reserve tables and you generally feel really looked after. The food is incredible value and cooked with passion. Warm and cosy in front of the fire and great to chat with the locals. We truly enjoyed this place for its honesty- we even had our food on plates- real plates! That's unusual nowadays but- whatever your opinions on the plate issue- it's what goes on them that matters. Our haggis, tatties and neeps were perfectly served with a cream and whiskey sauce. Highly recommend and looking forward to the next visit.

First time here, definitely not the last

My wife and I had a fantastic vegetarian meal here on a busy Sunday afternoon in January. However, even with it being so busy the staff were still very happy to help, not at all stressed and still had smiles on their faces! The menu is splendid, offering some fantastic vegetarian options as well, the meal itself was delicious! The decor and atmosphere is truly something unique and couple this with a cracking breakfast tea, great food and excellent service, I would highly recommend anyone coming here! Why not work up an appetite by having a few miles walk up and back on he canal?

Great food and friendly service
Aug 2018 • Couples
We visited the Plough as it was close to the campsite we were staying on. Didn't know anything about the place beforehand and were very pleasantly surprised. Our food was excellent, really first class, and the service was great - very friendly, efficient without being over the top.

There is a fair range of draught beers on offer, including a really tasty locally-brewed blonde ale. The wine served was also very good.

We had a very enjoyable evening at the Plough and will definitely return when next we visit the area.
