Thursday 24 February 2022, My husband and I decided to go out for the day to visit Curborough Hall Farm Countryside Craft Centre just outside Lichfield.

The Countryside Craft Centre is home to a great selection of local, independent businesses, all found within original converted old barns and farm buildings.

The Centre Offers a mixture of traditional and contemporary; including the long-established Antiques Centre & Mabel's Tearoom, it is also home to several talented artists and crafts people, a hair & beauty section, a gift shop and Lichfield Garden Centre to mention but a few.

My husband and I parked our car in the car park and we then went mooching. First of all we went to ‘The Art Loft’ and looked at Karen Strachen’s wonderful artwork mainly in a medium of oils. Karen does the most wonderful seascapes and was working in her gallery the day we visited.

My husband and I then went to ‘Phoenix Interiors’, which has some wonderful pieces of furniture, textiles, ceramics, glass and vintage items. My husband liked some of the reupholstered chairs done in leathers, fabrics and velvet.

The Countryside Craft Centre also has delicious food and drink on offer, including; ‘Bradbury's Farm Shop & Butchery’ and ‘The Cheese, Gin & Ale Barn’, My husband and I visited here and there was a huge range of flavoured gins and a wonderful selection of locally made cheeses. I purchased three wonderful cheeses here ( Lemon & Gin, Caramelised Onion & Rioja & Caramelised Toffee) .

My husband and I then went to visit ‘The Antique Centre’, which was just like an Aladdin’s Cave of objects de arts, curios and vintage, we mooched round here for just over an hour and then we both decided we were in need of refreshments.

We visited ‘The Thyme Kitchen’, where we sat by a nice warm fire and we both indulged in hot chocolates (nothing better on a cold windy day) and my husband had a slice of Victoria sponge and I had a slice of coffee and ‘Baileys’ cake. We spent a nice hour in this restaurant.

Afterwards, we looked at a few more shops, but they were beginning to close so we made our way back to the car park and then we drove back home. We had taken some nice photographs of our day out and I had even found inspiration here as I wrote a poem called ‘New Adventures’.

Most of the outlets here are interesting with helpful staff notably the antiques centre and farm shop.
The star of the show is the Thyme cafe. The food is delicious in particular brunch. Make sure you ask for the tomato chilli jam - after much begging they sold me a jar.
The staff are genuinely friendly and engaging. Persian Eggs my personal favourite.

Wonderful for several types of crafts. Many artisans work from here. Glass painting, wood work, knitting and crochet. Candles. Farm shop. Food and wine hall.Quite a few shops sell unusual gift wear. The garden center is brilliant ,selling at competitive prices. The lovely little antique place. Then a new restaurant. Thyme kitchen wonderful place to have a meal or just a nice cup of tea and cake. Also they do special days for the gourmet amongst you. Have a sandwich and a takeaway tea or coffee by the pond. There are massive changes. There is always something new to see. Its well worth a visit

More staff and better attitude.
Sat for 20 mins then had to call someone over asked for a menu and drink another 15 mins menu and coffee arrived drank coffee eventually asked if I wanted any food said no.
Waited again so took myself inside to pay.
Unfortunately left my t-shirt on the chair and left.
3 hours later realised what I had done and drove back expecting one of the waitresses to have picked it up when they cleaned table totally shocked to find it still on the chair.
At least the customers who sat at the table didn't take it. Have to say that the rest of my visit was great especially the garden center.

Enjoy looking round the shops. Bought a print from one of the art galleries this time. The antique shop is always worth a look and the garden centre was in full bloom. Lots of parking and a small but varied range of shops.

Visited here with my partner for the 1st time earlier this month and was happy we did.
Fancied a drive out and we stumbled across this place.
Nice tea room where they do the best cakes. Even cakes I've not seen since I was at high school.
Pleasant staff, nice selection of little shops, really look forward to my next visit.

Visited Mabels for coffee and cake with friends. The only cakes available were gluten free and if we wanted any other kind we were told we had to buy the whole cake. Eventually the manager said that the large cakes could be broken in to which upset the assistant as from then on in Everything we asked for involved slamming down glasses drinks and cakes she was sullen and obviously had somewhere else to be and it wasn’t serving us. All we wanted was a piece of cake and a coffee not the earth. I will think twice about eating here. Maybe a short customer services course would be in order for some of the staff.

Just popped in for tea and cake, this Saturday afternoon....only a few people in the tea room but we still had to get up and go and ask where our cheesecake and apple pie were.
When they came the cheesecake looked and tasted great but my apple pie and cream was a real let down. It had been nuked in the microwave, so when I received it the pastry was soggy and the cream was warm. Felt that the seating area could have been cleaner and empty tables stil had used plates etc on them. Won't be stopping off here for tea and cake again.

I thought I'd found a hidden gem in mabels tea rooms at this quaint country shopping village. My god how wrong was I. I have never encountered such rude staff who to be quite frank should be sacked or given a harsh lesson in customer service. I thought I was at the school dinner queue at Borstal. If you don't want to serve the public don't work there get another job and let someone else do the job with some manners. Won't ever be going back unless even if I was desperate :@

5 of us had a great Sunday lunch. Good 'home cooked' food, large selection of vegetables. Nice puddings, and it was remarked that the bread and butter pudding was something to write home about!! Served in nice surroundings. The main course + sweet offer was good value too.
