Home to the Bishops of Bath and Wells for 800 years this stunning medieval palace is open for all to enjoy. Surrounded by a breathtaking moat with resident Mute swans, you can cross the Drawbridge to experience a true hidden gem in the heart of the City of Wells. The Palace sits within 14 acres of RHS partner gardens, including the beautiful well pools from which the city takes its name. In the Arboretum is the newly developed "Dragon's Lair" children's playground to tire out little legs. There are daily Guided Tours, a Cafe serving delicious lunches, cakes and hot and cold drinks.

Even though you have to pay to enter, it is definitely worth it. The palace is stunning, both inside and out, and the gardens are lovely to walk around. The ticket is valid all day, so you can come and go as you please which is nice. We went on a guided tour of the palace which was very informative... More

We have visited Wells before but this was the first time we have visited the Bishop's Palace. The good thing about it is that you can visit the shop and the café without actually having to go into the Palace. The Café serves light lunches and teas and cakes and if you sit outside there is a good view across... More

Despite living in the area, I have never actually visited the gardens of the Bishop's Palace until now, and I am kind of ashamed of the fact, because it was an absolutely fantastic way to spend a couple of hours, in a tranquil space, with some wonderful history. We joined a guided tour of the Palace which only lasted half... More

Great piece of history . Some dates back to 1200. Gardens are beautiful with streams going through some parts of the garden.

This was our first visit to Wells and the gardens here were lovely. Loads of colour even at this time of year. Had a nice coffee on our way in at the cafe. If we had had enough time we would have eaten there as it looked lovely. Bought a couple of plants as well. Lovely buildings and the staff... More

Absolutely stunning and to watch the swans ring the bell for food is just wonderful , when I was told that this happens i must admit that I didn't believe it but I've no seen it for myself and it's a truly fantastic site to see.

A lovely place,! The guided tour is included in the entrance fee, so we recommend that you join it. We were guided by a slightly older gentleman who was very interesting to listen to and he had a lot of knowledge and stories to share with us!

The gardens are beautiful, especially when the weather comes up trumps and the Sun shines out of a clear blue sky! The palace is a fascinating place to explore and we thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

Great choices on the very fresh menu. They understand Gluten Free as well. Tucked away in the grounds so easy to miss.
