I had the misfortune of renting chalet 88 at Dunster beach in September 2021.I was shocked and upset to find it disgustingly filfthy throughout.I have a long list of complaints.Sticky kitchen worktops, stains on beds, cobwebs and spiders everywhere.Filfthy cupboards and drawers with smelly old food in them.etc. I am an elderly lady and informed Dunster Beach Holidays Ltd of my age and poor health.DBH Ltd assured me that the chalet would undergo a deep clean prior to my arrival, after all we were and still are in the centre of a pandemic.
I reported my findings and explained my distress regarding the state of this chalet to the management.
After DBH Ltd looking into this, they admitted that they had not inspected the chalet for cleanliness and admitted that the state of the chalet was unacceptable.
End result.... DBH Ltd offered a mere £50 refund !
This is the second time Chalet 88 has been mentioned since June 2021.
If you are looking to stay here, your best bet would be to rent directly from the owner and not through Dunster Beach Holidays Limited !

This review is just about Chalet 88 Dunster Beach, We had the misfortune to stay here for 3 nights of the 7 nights we had booked in June this year. The Chalet was generally very unclean and nothing short of a complete disgrace. The owner was completely unhelpful with a refund for the nights we were unhappy to continue staying. Do beware the photos he shows online are NOTHING like the reality - the photos here are all genuine pictures taken on the 12th, 13th, and 14th June this year. Dunster beach itself is lovely and the holiday company did try and find us another chalet but they did not have one with a shower so we had to decline. This is just one poor owner who sadly has no pride in this accommodation at all.

Great beach but car park machines never work. We came last year and had the same problem today. We tried 4 different Apple Pay phones/ cards and 2 payment cards and none of them were accepted. They do not accept cash so we had no way of paying. Others have had the same problem with paying today too

We went here yesterday with the family as it was one of our favorite beach spots.. having been going here for years we decide to have a bbq in the area where it was always permitted and we checked on the website which stated the area next to the toilet blocks. We had an extremely rude gentleman tell us very abruptly infact shouting at us that we had to put the bbq out as it wasn't the permitted area! We tried explaining to him that we had checked on the website and we were in the area it stated but he would not listen. He said there were signs up every where saying no BBQs but actually there was not a single one anywhere! We had the everyone staring at us while he was having his rant which was not nice at all..safe to say we will not be returning here as we were totally shocked and upset by the whole experience.

This beach isn't the most beautiful I've been to, but it's wonderful for kids - with the "secret" rockpools, sand, pebbles - hours of fun for the little ones. The rocks also make a nice wind break in parts. There were many people with children and/or dogs there yesterday, the car park very busy, people parking in the lane. Yes, we liked Dunster Beach, a bit different to the usual.

I first stayed in this chalet in the Summer of 1962
They Calet is now owned by different people, then Mr & Mrs Green. And has obviously been much improved since that time. In those days there was only a kitchen sink and a washroom basin. Water had to be collected daily from the community water tap at a point immediately in front of the Chalet, (now removed).
Toilets were some distance to the east in a community block. (Still there). A long walk at 0200 hrs.
I was six years of age, when I first stayed on holiday with my family and this area has stayed in my memory, ever since !
I have returned many times and stayed in various Chalets. But the love of this site has never dwindled.
Once bitten you will come back time and time again ! Fantastic for Families and memories.
This Chalet holds special memories for me but, honestly any chalet of your own preferences will give you a holiday to remember.
Still like a holiday decades ago. Try it to find out for yourself.
The surrounding area alone is worth the money.
Happy holiday !

Stayed at chalet 46 Pitman’s Retreat for a eve week commencing 11 September. En very vWhat an amazing chalet. One bedroom with two very comfortable full size beds which was more comfortable than mine at home. The kitchen very well equipped for holiday accommodation. Lounge was comfortable with sofa bed and two armchairs one was a riser recliner. Toilet shower room compact but very user friendly.

I have tried hard to find something negative to say about this great little chalet on the beach side of the site.

Many thanks to the Pitman family.

you are much better off walking/cycling/driving to the Blue Anchor Bay, couple of miles along the coast. Or the same distance in the opposite direction, to MInehead. You'll get better beach and better views - and some cafes/life to go with it.

Beautiful place and been going for 16 years . The only issue I really have is the lack of cleanliness of the chalets . It use to not be such an issue but given we can’t get into the chalets until late because they are suppose to be deep cleaned is frankly a fabrication . My chalet this year wasn’t too bad but clearly hadn’t seen a cleaner recently . My son who stayed in a different chalet with his family the chalet was absolutely filthy even down to the crockery having old food on it . No point in complaining to management because concerns are just ignored .

I love the place so much it won’t stop me going bit it’s not run as well as it once was. And it rankles with me that I leave the place cleaner than when I go in spending hours before leaving getting it nice and it’s not even my job .

This review is about 46 dunster beach, "Pitmans Retreat" and what a treat it was! A home from home. Fully equipped kitchen , everything you could want its there. Arrived to find beautiful fresh flowers for us and a pint of milk so we could enjoy a cuppa. Owner is very approachable and accommodating. Love it here and will be going back next year!
