Gorge-ous
Jun 2021 • Couples
Gorge-ous. Cheddar and its gorge are stunning. The village is truly amazing with lots of nice shops and little eateries.

Bought some cheese to take home and some nice memories of a truly awesome place.

Give the Gorge a Lift !
May 2021 • Couples
So I see the “1 star” reviews because the caves have closed due to the redundancies following COVID-19!
Firstly the lack of industry forced the national trust to reduce their staff to just 3 in the Gorge,
The caves need all sort of staff to operate- including rescue teams etc.

I’m giving all the remaining business and staff “5 stars” for doing the best they can in dire times, and it is only with a continuous support will they get back on their feet and where this place should be.
Yes the shops can be a little pricey in high times, isn’t that true of everywhere?
This is a treasure, let’s save it !

Amazing natural wonder
May 2021 • Family
What an amazing natural feature. It has stunning views and great scenery, along with some seemingly wild goats!
The walks are quite steep and uneven so I would recommend good walking boots and if you are not able to walk far on unstable ground then maybe worth finding an alternative location.
The village itself has a good range of shops (some far more expensive than others so do walk further into town away from the gorge for better value)

Amazing!
May 2021 • Couples
Cheddar gorge was incredible. We followed national trust trail and had to hike up a very stony steep hill which was very difficult and took around 45 minutes just to get up the hill. But once we were at the top of the gorge the view was amazing! Coming back down was a lot easier but again very Rocky. We didn’t walk up the second half of the gorge as we were very tired so we walked down the road back to Cheddar village which was breathtaking as you can see the middle of the gorge in its full glory. Cheddar village is just beautiful. So so pretty definitely worth a visit. Would recommend this to everybody. Just be prepared for lots of walking and bring snacks and water.

May 2021
My partner had never been to cheddar gorge, so after being locked down for a long time we planned a trip here. very little was open, public toilets still closed shops with toilets non-existant, saw a sign for toilets at COSTA. couldn`t find it. shop that were open very expensive.. car park was £5 all day. only abouit six cars in so plenty of room. would i return, that would be a big fat NO.

Walked the gorge walk not easy
May 2021 • Couples
We walked the gorge walk. Went up Jacob's ladder and walked all the way round. Signs say about 3 miles but it took us about 3 hrs as it's very uneven and very steep in places. Its definately not an easy walk. The views are lovely from the top. No other attractions in cheddar are open. Some shops and cafes were open though. Car parking was £5 all day

Beautiful but ruined by car gatherings revving and racing up and down the road
Apr 2021
Walked up and around the gorge, stopped at the top to enjoy the scenery and have a picnic. Beautiful views, but unfortunately ruined by a mass of cars gathering and revving up and down the road through the gorge and racing around the bends despite police patrol, which could be heard across the gorge and from the top. I don't think this is uncommon here, so don't think we'll be heading back.

Needless to say the caves are closed at the moment but we still had a lovely drive through the gorge and wandered around the shops, bought cheese, had lunch!! Perfect!

Lovely
Apr 2021 • Friends
We stopped off here for a couple of hours on our way back from Somerset. I'd been here before and it was just as lovely as I remembered.

Unfortunately the caves were shut due to covid restrictions but the shops were all
open.

There's some really nice shops here. We had cream teas from the waterfall cafe, would highly recommend. In addition, we had some pasties from the Mousehole cafe, these were delicious.

We went into the cider shop, sweet shop and toadstall souvenirs shop. All the staff were really welcoming and friendly.

Cheddar itself is beautiful. It has a lovely stream running through it and if you walk up to the top of Jacobs Ladder there are some stunning views. If you walk to the top of the gorge it truely is amazing!
