It was really awesome. Super pretty building. They offer two types of tours. One does inside the main area and talks about the history and such and then the other one takes you to the top of the tower where you can see the bells and look out into the city. They let you pull the church bells! This was at a fair price for £10.The staff is also very friendly and have lots of knowledge.

After visiting the overcrowded neighboring Roman Baths, it would be easy for most to decide to skip the Bath Abbey and the more notable Bath Abbey Vaults.

Bath Abbey is the largest late Gothic church in England. The best part is the early 16th century ceiling over the choir and the museum located in the vaults. The vaults are not well sign posted at all (head toward the altar, the door is on the right wall, go outside then down the stairs) and as consequence you may find yourself the only person there.

The designer of this tiny museum is a master of concision and organization. I didn't think it was possible to sum up 1600 years of history so well. Information ranging from the Abbey's Saxon roots to today is displayed in visual and audio form. They also have a tasteful display of the skeleton of a female found buried with the monks which includes facts regarding the archaeological circumstances of her discovery.

The museum runs on donations alone; it is well worth visiting.

The Bath Abbey Church is obviously still open but the Heritage Vaults were closed several years ago

Beneath Bath Abbey are the Heritage Vaults, opened to the public in 1994. Displays and exhibits here outline the history of the Abbey, and the important part that religion played in the city’s past.

There was originally a Saxon church on the site, and as was the case with most Saxon churches, the wooden structure was replaced by a stone structure by the Normans in 1080, and this in turn was replaced by the Abbey in the late 15th century when building work began.

Exhibits include Saxon and Norman sculpture, as well as the Abbey silver collection. It's easy to miss when visiting the Abbey but gives the visitor a valuable insight to all that has gone on "upstairs"

I visited the Abbey yesterday and asked to see the Heritage Vault to be told by a perplexed attendant that it had been closed to the public for a considerable time. I have set the rating as one star as I don't know how else to note that this Attraction is closed. It is also worth commenting that 2 of the 4 reviews are of the Abbey itself and not the separate Vaults. I was told it will reopen as part of a major refurbishment but as there is no funding currently this may take several years.

Located inside Bath Abbey are the vaults that house one thousand year old sculptures and a silver collection from the Abbey. Well worth a visit.

As noted by other reviewers, the heritage vaults were closed a number of years ago. However, you can still visit the abbey and I recommend the tower tours as this is a nice way to see views over Bath.

One of many beautiful, old churches in England. The Abbey can hold its own very well with the likes of Cantebury Cathedral and other larger churches. They request a donation at the door but there is no pressure if you are not inclined. The stained glass windows are beautiful as is the pipe organ. The vaults were not available but the Abbey itself more then made up for it. Worth an hour or so of your time.
