My wife and I went on the tour a couple of days ago joining about 20 other people lead by our guide Ken who was full of interesting knowledge about the history of Bath. The 2-hour tour is absolutely free, tips and not even allowed and it offers great value. We would have gladly made a contribution to the Mayor's charity for the pleasure and knowledge we gained from the tour. We could not have done this on our own as we covered quite a bit of the city centre garnering facts as we went.
We highly recommend the Mayor's Tour to any visitor, it is a 'must do' tour.

First off, this FREE tour would easily be worth £20 if they ever decided to charge for it. Bath is a gorgeous city, but it’s a city that, as an outsider, is best explained by someone that has local knowledge. We didn’t just see the beautiful architecture and sights such as the Royal Crescent and the Circus, we learned why that architecture is here and how the city was able to preserve its aesthetic, even when the money wasn’t there. Without this tour, you’ll take away some beautiful photos from your trip to Bath. With this tour, you will take away an understanding of this city.

Our super knowledgeable and friendly guide, Pete, gave us a fascinating 2 hour guided walk of the best of Bath, spiced up with lots of history anecdotes and great humour.
The guides are very professional taking all necessary measures to keep our group of 6 safe and we would highly recommend their tours. Since they don't even accept a tip they deserve a round of applause and a gold star at least!

We were on holiday in Bath and wanted to learn a bit about the history, and having done a “free” walk in Bruges, thought we’d try one here as well. Unlike Bruges where you are expected to give a tip depending on how much you enjoyed it, you are told that tipping is not permitted, and it is actually a free walk, as advertised.
The booking system and organisation of the walk was excellent, with the clear instructions emailed to you beforehand. We were set off in groups of ten with our guide, Andrew, who introduced himself and the format of the two hour walk, with road safety explained.
We then proceeded to walk and stop at the main sights around the city, where Andrew gave us a short, (approx 3-5 minute) history about the sight. Andrew made the talks factual, interesting, funny, and entertaining in just the right measure, inviting questions and “heckling is allowed”. This made the whole experience the opposite of my school history lessons, which I dropped at the first opportunity. I would Highly recommend this walk for anyone who likes to learn history in a fun and practical way.

We booked our Friday morning walking tour online prior to visiting Bath and were pleased we did as it was very popular.
Excellent guides, one was training, with incredible knowledge & passion for their city and very entertaining delivery of information. You get to see & hear all about the key sites in the city in two hours which is just about right timewise and it's completely free!!
I cannot recommend it enough, a fabulous experience.

An amazing voluntary service for tourists from Bath citizens. Our guide Anne was very interesting and full of historical facts about Bath often with stories to bring the individual people alive. Despite the rain showers, heavy at times and cold wind she kept going for over 2 hours, finding arches to shelter under while she regaled us with her stories. Thank you

We visited Bath for two days. While there are so many things to explore in the city of Bath, I highly recommend this tour (free) plus the Roman Bath (entrance fee was around 20 pounds that you can purchase ahead of time- in 2023) if you only have limited time in the city like us. Shoutout to Mr. Mike Charleton (hope I spelled his name correctly!) as well as the city of Bath for a great tour! Mr. Charleton was extremely thorough in explaining Bath's history, architecture, and the city's relevance to modern pop culture (Harry Potter films, celebrity tidbits etc). The tour is about 2 hours, and you are free to leave in the middle anytime -- but it's so good that you want to stay for the whole time anyways. Thank you Mr. Charleton for giving my mom, boyfriend, and I a fantastic tour!!! :) I cannot stop raving about how pleasantly memorable this tour was out of our whole trip to London and Bath!

This is a fantastic intro. to Bath. Don’t think that just because it is free (the guides don’t even accept tips) that it isn’t top notch. The guides have to pass a rigorous training course and are excellent ambassadors for Bath. They will make you fans of Bath with their enthusiasm and lively manner of bringing the history of Bath alive.

You don’t need to pre book, just show up next to the sign for the tour near the Roman Baths. We did the two hour morning tour of Bath. It was a busy Bank Holiday and they had four guides ready to accommodate the number of guests into small groups. They left at 10:30 AM SHARP and some folks who showed up a few minutes late were running to find us. (If you miss the tour there is a 90 minute walking tour leaving at 11:30 am departing opposite to the Lord Mayor free tour, but it costs GBP 15.)

Andy was our guide. He came to know Bath as a student and then retired here. He is an excellent guide.

He also suggested we visit the Roman Baths in the evening by candlelight (only available in summer) which turned out to be a great tip.

The City of Bath is to be commended on its initiative in running such s terrific program.

In addition to the daily Bath walking tours, they offer several others.

We had a great time yesterday on our two hour walking tour of Bath! Our guide Phil was engaging, funny and expertly skilled in navigating Bath. We noticed he seemed very good at preparing us for walking through busy areas, before regrouping where we could better hear him.

My partner had never been to Bath before whereas I had, but we both learnt lots from the tour. As well as giving us a great overview of the founding of the city and the 'fashionable' development of Bath, we were also told of details that added a bit of colour to the exsperience, like the Sedan chairs, building materials/style choices and the social class/status attached to them, which we would never have gotten from walking around on our own. I think it's also impressive we were able to see pretty much all of the major sites of Bath.

Overall we would heartily recommend this. The fact that this is completely free with no tips or gratuity is really great, although the tour was so good we wished we could have given Phil a tip!

Also big props to the team for sending two guides; it helped keep our group a manageable size!

We visited Bath last weekend, at the same time that Storm Dennis visited the UK.
We briefly popped into Bath on the Friday, knowing stormy weather was due the next day. The architecture was amazing.
We saw the poster outside the Roman Baths promoting the tour, and despite the crazy weather decided to learn about Bath by joining the tour. There were 30 people so we were split into 3 groups. Thankfully we were lucky enough to be in Adrian's group. He was an absolute gem. I cannot sing his praises highly enough. I was gripped from start to finish. His knowledge was fantastic and the tour was incredibly interesting, full of wonderful facts and anecdotes. He was also very witty. He really brought Bath to life. All the buildings we had seen the. Previous day took on a whole new dimension. I loved the history and seeing the beautiful buildings and learning about the people who built the town and had a significant influence on it.
Even the presence of blustery winds and driving rain did not spoil the tour. It was the highlight of our weekend, and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Bath.
A Big Thank You to Adrian.
