Amazing spa day with best friend
We absolutely loved the spa day with our glass of prosecco. Staff at he spa was really nice, especially Monika the masseuse who attended me, was really kind, informant and professional.Facilities wasn't busy and the grounds of the hotel breathtaking. My only complain would be to of order jacuzzi but fortunate for us the day was so hot, we spent most of it on deck chairs outside. Pool water was pleasantly warm as well, not the usual "toes in first :)" Elemis cosmetics in the spa and shower was a pleasant surprise too. I will be coming back.

Spa day and lunch
The booking system for the spa is inefficient and the staff are prone to make errors. I booked a spa day for 5 for a 60th birthday treat in September 2018 for Sunday 27th January. I requested an email confirmation, none was received and rang several times to confirm the booking and the treatments required. Less than 24 hours prior to our visit I had a call from a member of the spa staff who informed me they ha d a booking for only 1 person. I was extremely upset and disappointed. They were able to fit us in after making a fuss and the staff on duty were very apologetic. The restaurant appeared under staffed. We waited a long time for refreshments and a 2 course lunch took 1 hour 40 mins, resulting in 2 people being delayed for their treatments. The food, though very pleasant was not as described in the menu. The disorganisation and poor service was extremely disappointing.

Disappointed beyond words
This was my 5th or 6th visit to the hotel. In previous years I’d stayed at the hotel but this time I came for the day with my mum for her 70th birthday along with my aunt and sister in law. I hadn’t been for a year or so and was shocked at the state of the spa. Firstly it was absolutely packed! The sun loungers were all taken (even if no one sat on them for an hour or so). The fact it was busy meant the changing rooms were hectic and soon became full of disused towels and robes. When we finally left at 3.30 the changing areas had not once been seen to! The spa is now in real need of some TLC. The pool outside is tired with tiles missing as is the case throughout. I was so embarrassed to bring a group here for a special occasion and find it so grim! I think lots of people were there on a January offer where as we had paid for an indulgent (joke) spa day. There was nowhere to sit so once we’d used facilities we had to stand around or get dressed before treatment time. The staff looked bored and disinterested. The other real disappointment was the state of the relaxation room. Freezing cold and gone are the days of a nice hot drink after your treatment. We paid £120 each and it was awful. The one saving grace was a delicious cream tea afterwards. Sadly I will never return to this place that was for many years an annual treat. This place needs a serious kick up the backside.

Excellent
It was a lovely surprise from my Daughter . This place was totally amazing and i recommend anyone to come for a spa day. My daughter and myself had a treatment and then I had lunch and my daughter had afternoon tea. The portions were big and the food was lovely. The service we received from the staff was fabulous. Deb did my massage and it's the best I had had in all the spa treatments I have had in the passed . Also would like to mention Rodolphe and Biju for fantastic service with our meals. Will deffinately be coming here again .

Spa day gone wrong
I had booked an indulgent spa day for Saturday 26 May online and paid for it,got the confirmation and had to ring to book up treatment times.my friend was traveling from Ipswich and would arrive the day of the spa.so rang on the Friday to book treatments .The person on the phone said a problem with the booking, but would speak to the manager and get back to me.so Friday evening came and at 7 pm no one had rang me,so I made a call explained the problem,I was told that all spa managers had gone home, and were going to send me an email to ring for a refund.so I lost the plot and said how cross I Was that no one had the decency to ring and explain what had happened, asked who I was speaking to and found out his name was Ben a spa assistant. He was very apologetic and listened to me,he said the only thing he could do was give us a complimentary spa to use the facilities and have our afternoon tea and refund our money,I thanked him as he had been so understanding as we had been looking forward to our visit, all the treatment times were booked up,we did expect them just to say no. We turned up on the day and used the spa, I have been before two years ago and was shocked how worn all the facilities had become, the steam room was not working, outdoor pool very shabby and towels and cups left around seating areas.Afternoon tea was very nice sandwiches scones cakes all very tasty. We spoke to an operational manager didn’t get his name, but he listened to our problems and went to the spa to find out about what he could and explained that on Tuesday Christina McKenzie executive assistant would ring and do our refund. On Tuesday Christina rang me, was so apologetic and did our refund.so Ben operational manger and Christina McKenzie thank you for taking the time to listen and letting us have a spa day.

Enjoyable spa day but too busy
I visited the MacDonald Bath Spa for a spa day. I opted for a back massage, which I can’t fault. I also used the gym, which has hi-tech equipment etc - which I also can’t fault. The only thing I would say is that I didn’t really use the pool or hydro pool. Both pools were busy with hotel guests and an aqua aerobics class. My recommendation would be to plan ahead and try to avoid these classes if you can. Otherwise, you can’t use the pool and the changing rooms are too busy. I had an enjoyable morning but I exhausted the facilities in three hours and a full spa day would have been too long.

A tale of 2 halves
I visited this hotel for a spa day for a friends birthday. First we used the spa which was nice and had treatments. I had a back/shoulder massage and a mini facial and they were very good, all the staff in the spa were very good and very pleasant and helpful. After our treatments we had a cream tea booked which we had been told we could have while still wearing our spa robes.
When we got to where we were to have the cream tea, we were greeted by a member of staff who almost looked horrified that we were still wearing our spa robes, she went off to check that we could wear our robes and returned with another member of staff who looked equally horrified and what appeared to be looking down her nose at us that we even dared try and have tea wearing robes.
We then went to get changed and returned where we were given a better greeting.
Once seated we waited we ordered our tea and prosecco and then waited approx half an hour for it to arrive.
When the cream tea arrived, considering there was 8 small scones, we were only given a teaspoonful of cream and when we asked for more an even smaller amount was provided. We also had to ask for plates. When the tea arrived we had to ask for milk which took a further 20 minutes to arrive and were never offered any sugar.
The cakes were very nice though.
We weren’t the only ones who had problems, another couple also commented to the waitress that they had waited too long for their order, she didn’t seem bothered, it’s not like it was busy in there either.
So definitely a story of two halves. The Spa was fabulous, the service around the cream tea was very poor.

Lovely day spa break. Not perfect but nice all the same.
Feb 2018 • Couples
Booked a day spa including 50 min treatment and cream tea each for my wife and me. Purchased via Living Social at a very reasonable discount. So very happy there. Certainly worth it with the included treatments and tea.

The day itself was very nice and relaxing. Quiet around the pool and steam rooms etc. Smart and clean (in general - see later). Staff very friendly and accommodating throughout.

We'd been to the hotel & spa previously, possibly about 10 years ago when the spa was in the process of being constructed and enjoyed ourselves immensely.

This time, although still enjoyable, I felt that the place was starting to show it's age. The outside pool area had a number of the small mosaic tiles missing and cracks appearing around the edges. The 'aromatherapy steam room' certainly had an aroma Ughhhh :-(. The changing room lockers doors had chips and scrapes.

One other thing, it would have been nice if we had been shown around on arrival so that we knew where and what things were.

All in all though, a happy experience and would recommend (at the discounted price).
