Recently and wonderfully restored, the column commemorates Lord Hill, prominent in the Battle of Waterloo with the Duke of Wellington. One of the high points of Shrewsbury.

172 steps to the top of the column, lovely views. Went on an open day event run by Www.friendsoflordhillscolumn.co.uk Lord Hill column is worth a visit , because of the rich heritage of Shropshire , the panoramic views and to help the campaign to renew the weather worn statue.

It occupies a very commanding position looking over the Abbey Foregate and there is an explanation if you walk up to it but it is... More

I'm staying near the statue and because of its height, stone is falling from it in high winds. It has been cordoned off so hopefully no one will get hit from falling debris but be careful.

The column is boarded off as parts have fallen and been a hazard. Hopefully they will put some repairs in place

There is work being done here, and it is closed for the time being. You should phone the tourist information office before setting off to visit it. When it is open, it is well worth a visit.
