I can highly recommend the virtual wine tasting events. Each week Gary introduces 2 wines ( advance notice given so you can taste the same or similar wines to Gary), talks about the regions of production and how this may infulence the style and price of the wine. You can ask questions and Gary, who is extrememy knowledgable, will answer very clearly and concisely. If you don't wish to taste the wines, don't worry, you will still have a very pleasant, enjoyable hour listening to the descriptions of the wines along with fun and informal banter. Love it !

Thanks Helen, I've had a great time hosting these virtual wine tastings myself and learnt a few new tricks. It's been great fun and I've had some wonderful feedback. I'd like to think I've brought some cheer in these difficult times. Now moving across to "Zoom" for an even better experience, so check the website for details.

WSET1 was my Christmas present, and what a thoroughly enjoyable day it was. Gary has a lovely teaching manner, was always happy to go beyond the confines of Level 1 and the food and wine pairing was a revelation. Great value, would recommend to anyone wanting to explore the fascinating world of win

Hi Paul, glad you enjoyed the day and passed the WSET Level 1 with flying colours. Looking forward to meeting you again on future courses, perhaps the 8 week "World of Wine" which is great prep for WSET Level 2

2 weeks into an 8 week course. Week 1 - France (Bordeaux & Rhone) and Week 2 Italy. Received as a Christmas gift from wife. Initially a bit sceptical as I expected to be sold wine - I was completely wrong! Gary Carter is an excellent teacher who clearly loves his subject. Using a combo of powerpoint, handouts and generous quantity of 6 wines per evening Gary takes you on a journey through the region imparting knowledge, techniques, anecdotes and humour. The wines provided are of excellent quality and range from approx ÂŁ6 to ÂŁ20+ per bottle. Nibbles and tasting notes are, of course, provided.
One piece of advice - don't drive! But if you do Gary even provides spitoons!

Thanks for your great review, the 8 week course is a big favourite of mine. As you say I don't sell wine, and many people are surprised by this but it's all about giving people a better understanding so that they can make better buying decisions when they do buy wine (from wherever). See you on Friday - Spain and Portugal.

Cheese and wine pairing evening at The Lion Hotel, Shrewsbury.
Having enjoyed tasting sessions with Gary before we returned after patiently waiting for lockdowns to subside. We were rewarded once again with an evening of great tasting wines plus cheeses to match, learning much in the process. Gary made the evening fun and very informal with like minded people.
We will return to more Shropshire Wine School sessions, we definitely recommend Gary if you are interested in trying a tasting session. More than wine tasting available too, his gin evening is a really good one!

Received as a Christmas gift I didn’t know what to expect. Gary was welcoming and made everyone feel at ease. Going into enough details about the various wines he had chosen and matching them with complementing charcuterie (seems so obvious that charcuterie from the same region/country goes best with the wine) we tasted 6 wines learning about the nuances of the regions, grapes and what makes a good year. A great introduction to the Shropshire Wine School and will definitely attend events in the future and recommend them to friends.

Thanks for your kind words, nothing better than a nice glass of red wine with suitable charcuterie to go with it. Hope to see you on another course later this year.

The course was very interactive and almost like a private lesson because we were only 4 to attend the course. Gary is a really good teacher and manage to make every part of the course lively. Starting by pealing the grape at the start is definitely a good way to start the journey and the food pairing at the end gave some surprises! Highly recommended then!

Gary at Shropshire Wine School is enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and absolutely adores wine. His passion for the subject and love of sharing his knowledge makes him a genuinely great teacher. I would recommend Gary unreservedly for the professional WSET qualifications.

I spent six weeks studying WSET 3 with Gary at Shropshire Wine School… A challenging course but extremely enjoyable and fun led by a very knowledgeable wine enthusiast and tutor Gary Carter. It’s one day on site, a Sunday, but many hours study at home

There were five of us on the course from varying walks of life and within a few weeks we were grasping and understanding the amazing world of wine.

I cannot recommend Gary enough, he is personable, knowledgeable and knows his wine!

If want to learn about wine and enjoy yourself as well the Shropshire Wine School is for you.

Oh and by the way I passed… !

Gary came to a privately rented house during a staycation with some friends of mine and we couldn’t have asked for a better time. Great wine, great knowledge and fun team games made our afternoon one to remember, learnt lots and will be making some purchases of the wine he provided for my own enjoyment when home. Would highly recommend to those visiting Shrewsbury to get Gary over for a fun afternoon with great wine.

Thanks for your kind words. It was my pleasure to spend a couple of hours talking you all through some lovely wines. Although the format I used is aimed at having a great time I’m glad you learnt some useful tips about wine along the way. I hope to see you on another wine tasting event if you visit Shropshire again.
