Needs to stop table service immediately
Sep 2021
I went to this pub and was told that they now operate table service, this is ridiculous! While we were seated at the table three or four parties came in and promptly turned around, were very unhappy and left. This is the only pub in the whole of the town centre in Shrewsbury which operates this policy, which contradicts the government guidance.

Brilliant boozer
Sep 2021
Found this pub by accident as we wondered around looking for somewhere to have a drink before we went for a meal. Absolutely brilliant - a real proper English drinking establishment that has no pretensions to be a restaurant or a gastropub. They sell alcoholic drinks and by this I mean they sell an excellent range of beers and ciders, many of them local to shrewsbury, Shropshire and hereford. A pub that reminds me of the 1970's before so many were ruined. Wish I lived nearby instead of 80 miles away. Looking forward to my next visit to Shrewsbury.

Tucked away. Go find!
Aug 2020 • Couples
Tucked away from the main street is this amazing little pub serving cask ales.
We always call in here and we even managed to get a seat in their fabulous little beer garden!
Choice of ales was good. Staff are always friendly.
Its not always open, so check when it is if you want to visit.

Spotless
Feb 2020 • Solo
Possibly the cleanest pub I've been in for years. An absolute pleasure to drink in there. Spotlessly clean, good beer and good service. Will definitely return soon. Also definitely suited to the more mature drinker 😁

Atmospheric pub -- but a bit pricey
Dec 2019
I had not been in this pub for years but we went on Saturday 21 December,Great set up just what i like in a traditional pub, with a glowing open fire. The beers were excellent, a good choice of traditional real ales, however, there was a marked difference in the price of my round each time I went up to the bar, £9.00 for a pint and a gin and coke, quite stiff, my mate who was with me queried his round which was found to be £4.19 over to what it should have been. these days with automated tills this should not happen, the sum was done in the barman's head at a very busy time of the day, shame really , otherwise full marks to the pub.

Doesn’t open till 5.00PM ? What’s all that about for a town centre pub ?
Oct 2019
A brick built building slightly away from the town centre on Swan Hill this pub, which was the former Benbow Hotel, unfortunately does not open till 5.00 pm during the week.
Internally it is an L shaped room with a small separate snug room as described below. A decent beer selection was available on the seven hand pumps with Ludlow Gold, Three Tuns IPA, Woods Shropshire Lad, Wye Valley HPA, Hobsons Town Crier and Salopian Hop Twister available on the ale front and Rosie Pig cider on the last pump. I went for the Salopian Hop Twister which was very good indeed. This was a very good concluding pub for me on the recent Pubs Galore crawl of Shrewsbury.

Nice garden and good beer
Aug 2019
Visited on one of the hottest days of the year. The beer garden was cool and sheltered, just what the doctor ordered. The rear of the pub is a very old wooden structure, hundreds of years old but lovely.
