Beautiful little space just near the town centre. Just popped in and v interesting. No stain glass windows to speak of but a beautiful memorial to Charles Darwin who worshipped here. Good to sit and think / pray.

I was passing the church just before 1pm on a Thursday and didn't think that I'd be able to see the interior. Then I noticed a board saying the church would be open for silent contemplation between 1 and 2 pm. Sure enough, the doors opened at I pm and I was welcomed inside. I was impressed by the interior which is both plain and elegant. The government paid for rebuilding the church after a Jacobite riot in 1715. George 1st later granted a charter resulting in the large royal coat of arms above the pulpit. The church also has an attractive blue Wedgewood frieze.

What a find - just wandering along High Street, Shrewsbury we were attracted by a wonderful facade and - best of all - open door. We poked our heads in and within seconds were welcomed to come in and share the glories of this little unitarian church. And it is beautiful with its dark wooden paneling, pews and balcony contrasted with the pale wall and a wedgwood design architrave. This is the church of Samuel Coleridge, John Wedgwood and Charles Darwin. It is a delightful place for anyone irrespective of beliefs and the people the vicar and staff member who welcomed us were friendly and informative.
