For fun, history and education the Coalbrookdale museums are well worth visiting
Visited Enginuity because we like hands on exhibits and this was so much fun. Although definitely intended for children/younger age group we released our inner child and haven’t played or laughed so much in ages. Darby Houses are worth a visit if you are interested in social history. Both houses were open but because only one guide was available for both we relied mainly on the info provided in the rooms. There is the opportunity to dress up afterwards. More social history was provided in The Daily Grind exhibition which was well worth visiting. Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron was very interesting showing its progress through history from how iron is formed to the finished products.

    Fantastic museums
We have now visited all Ironbridge museums and now on our return visits can highly recommend buying a 12 month pass. Our favourite place we visited is The Tar Tunnel you need to check the opening times. The staff at all the museums are lovely and very helpful 😀 Great days out.

    Nearly, but not quite.
What is open and available is mostly excellent. Mostly very well presented and well thought out. Let down by day to day matters that should be resolved, but often are not. We bought a "Pass Plus" 12 month access ticket, or so we thought. Several of the museum sites are only open for limited times of the year. Apparently due to a heavy reliance on volunteer staffing shortages. Check out opening times, and seasons before committing yourselves. Also be aware that parking is charged as an extra, over and above admission charges. A brilliant Organisation (The Trust) that is let down by some of its marketing strategies.
Hi, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We're sorry to hear you're disappointed about our opening times. We will be sure to pass your feedback on to the relevant teams. Kind Regards, IGMT

    Fun and informative.
We went to all the museums that were open and together they gave a really good picture of the start of the industrial revolution and are within enthusiastic walking distance of each other. The exhibit are well done and all of the staff were friendly and well informed. We went in early November - when the opening hours change to Wednesday - Sunday only. There are good value global and family tickets and if you live locally you can visit repeatedly.
Hi, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We’re delighted to hear you had a lovely day with us and look forward to welcoming you back soon. Kind Regards, IGMT

So much to see and do!
We bought a Pass Plus ticket and fitted in 4 museums in 2 days. We more than covered the cost as it included free parking (normally £1 per hour) and discount on purchases in the shops and restaurants, and better still is valid for 12 months. The museums are all located in original working buildings, are well laid out with clear information, and the staff/volunteer helpers were all friendly and helpful Excellent value for money!
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We're so happy to hear you enjoyed your time with us and hope to welcome you back soon with your PASS PLUS.

Step back in time to the genesis of the Industrial Revolution!
We purchased an annual pass to the Ironbridge Gorge Museums last year as there are so many you couldn’t complete them in a week! It was very good purchase. We finished the last of Museums last week and indeed revisited the Victorian Village! If you have young children the Victoria Village is a must. There is a magnificent play area at the end of the Village which would entertain any child for as long as you would let them. There are a number of very good restaurants throughout and every taste catered for. During the Summer months a live Funfair operates in the middle of the Village. Complete with Punch & Judy Show! If you decide to visit give yourself plenty of time as it is vast and lots of walking should you wish to do so. One other quirky thing for the kids is a functioning Bank where you can exchange your £ & change for ‘Old Money’ and shop prices are shown in Decimal & Old Money. I know I’ve gone on about the Victorian Village a lot but it’s worth it. The other Museums are each in their own right worth a visit. Maybe not for kids but you will always learn something new in each! Enjoy!
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your time with us with your annual PASS. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Ironbridge. An amazing time and history lessons included, if you wish.
The Museum of Iron was our first stop on this trip. Plenty of car parking and if you go mid week it is not too busy. We had bought passports to Ironbridge 25 year previous and after making a phone they were still valid. On our entrance into the visitors area the lady behind the desk, and also looking after the shop was amazed at the passports. Her comments "I need to find my hole punch". Eight tourist attractions and this is how they know which you have been to. The museum of iron is all about the different things made, the different minerals that go into the making of iron. Also about the people who worked there and the living conditions they endured. After the sights of the museum we had the wonderful experience of a guided tour of the old furnace. Our guide Steve Hudson gave us the most enjoyable history lesson. He was informative and very knowledgeable., being a person who was born and bred 5 miles up the road. We visited Coalbrookdale for the china museum which was also very interesting, although there was not a guide there, enough information is on display as you walk around. Jackfield tile museum is amazing. Thousands of tiles but the best part was the area where the tiles of Aesops Fables were. Try to decipher the old English writing. The Ironbridge museum is not very much, but you do get some great views and pictures of the bridge. Overall a great 2 days away and if you are people that like to walk then most of the museums are within 1 - 1.5miles from each other. Parking at all of the tourist sites are £1 for every hour and most of the machines only take card payment.

    Variety
A group of 10 museums; must be something for everyone! I loved the Jackfield tile museum most. SO many tiles; so varied and well supported with information, especially the last gallery. Inspirational

    Amazing value
Amazing value. The pass for all attractions is great value, we spent a couple of days which were both enjoyable and interesting. So much to see and beautifully preserved. A delve into our fascinating history lesson with added fun. Enjoyed every moment and all the staff were lovely. All the sites were fascinating. A couple of the sites are only open certain days / times so check beforehand when planning your visit for the best experience. Unforgettable.

I should state upfront that this is a review about the booking of annual passes for a trip that 6 of us intend to take this coming weekend. We have had our accomodation booked for 6 months and at that time Ironbridge had a consessionary rate for over 60s with the price fixed to the end of March 2020. Apologies if this is not the case. On calling to purchase the tickets i was informed that the rate had been withdrawn and that over 60s had to pay full adult rate fron early this month. Our party of 6 will need to pay @£13 extra per couple. I feel this is a short sighted policy which has not been publicised and would be interested in the business rationale for this decision which affects one group in particular. At the moment i would have thought that they would have welcomed the business despite weather problems etc.
I only hope that the museums are a success for my party.

Grandma and I had been before and so knew what we were looking for whilst there with the grandchildren.
Sadly we were NOT told that two of the places we wanted to visit were closed (Tar Tunnel and Museum of the Gorge) but we were still charged for two adults and four children, even though we only had two.
Bliss Hill village is a good day out, guide says 2-3 hours, but really needs 6-7 hours especially when staff/volunteers are on form. Children loved talking with the policeman, riding on the cart and eating chips out of paper. Unfortunately the rail experience was broken and the foundry was not fired up. But steam engine was working and fairground was working which made amends for lack of rail trip. This is a great place for grandmas and granddads to take grandchildren if you have passport and live within 1 hour's drive.
Museum of Iron staff only became helpful as we were leaving, failed to explain the bag they gave us as to what it did or was for.
However, Enginuity section more than made up for it and the children loved the interactive displays. Sand pit was their favourite.
Toll House was disappointing, would benefit from staff member being in costume and playing roll of toll master.
Places like Pipe Museum, Darby House, Clay and China museums were too old for our 4 & 6 year old.
Added to that car parking at museums (£5) is expensive compare to council car parks (£2.70) for all day.
Gift shops were disappointing.
Food in cafes across all sites was basic, but when you need a cup of tea any tea will do. Lots of places ran out of stock.

The website does not make it clear that the the attractions are 2 to 3 miles apart. The road signs are confusing especially on my visit when half the roads in the area were closed. Even without the road closures unless you have planned what you are doing and how you going to do it it will be still confusing.
Ironbridge itself is well worth a visit (and it's free) it would be 5 out out 5 on on its own. I would have score 1 without it bumping up the score.
I paid £58 for 2 tickets online it don't say that the Gorge museum was close for planned maintenance (really in August) and not all attractions are open every day (really in August). The museums are good but not £58 good and then to rub salt into the wound they charge for car parking.

More staff needed as service is diabolical,I waited 30 mins to pay for one slice of cake at the pavilion cafe.
They have one till and had capt slow serving, they need more than one till and more staff to make the service more efficient especially when it's busy.
The incline lift never works every time I have visited, yes you have signs telling people but maybe for the price people pay to get in every thing should be working!!
They seems to be a lack of staff all around the site.

Hi Lee, Thanks for visiting Blists Hill Victorian Town. We're sorry to hear that your visit didn't go as we would have liked. We are investigating what caused the delays you experienced at The Forest Glen Refreshment Pavilion, wait times such as this are highly unusual. We are currently working to repair the inclined lift, which has been fitted with new control gears and will receive external refurbishment soon. It is due to reopen in the early part of July, but this is dependent on testing following the completion of work. Our team of demonstrators are on site daily, manning the shops and exhibits all around the town. We hope you will consider visiting us again soon. Thanks, IGMT Marketing

Only Blist Hill open - all other museums closed - they do not know when they will be open (or if). Paid £40 for two tickets and could only visit Blist Hill. The website does not show clearly that all other museums are totally closed. If you're happy paying full price for only one attraction that's fine. We are not likely to be in the area within 12 months - so not good value at all.

Really enjoyed our recent visit to Ironbridge as it's been a while since I was there and this time I had children to bring along. We started at Blists Hill and decided that given it was £75 for two adults and two children for the day, we'd get the Pass for £86 and take in Enginuity as well. The weather was a bit wet to really make the most of being outside, but it's an enjoyable and informative visit with characters to tell you more. We changed some money in the bank (£5 is recommended) and our children bought some sweets and candles and had money to bring back as a memento. We had a picnic and were allowed to eat in the cafe as it was wet outside which we were grateful for. We did buy some drinks in there, but at £19 for two cups of tea and 3 bottles of fizzy, it's not cheap. After a good three hours there, we travelled over to Enginuity which my youngest loved and then the Museum of Iron which was really excellent. As we were staying close by, we took advantage of the Pass to come back the following day to the Jackfield Tile Museum which again was very worthwhile.

My only issue is that even though we paid £86 for our tickets you still have to pay for parking at £1 per hour. We paid £7 in parking fees altogether, which I thought a little steep.

We actually live in Telford and our Granddaughter works as an administrator for Coalbrookdale Museums and she loves the History.

She worked in the Blist Hill Victorian Museum from 16 and even when she was at UNI, she worked Part Time there. Now she works full-time at Coalbrookdale as it is a great place for weddings, with all of its History. The river Severn passes through the Village and it is a great place for nostalgia. Maybe a rather expensive to take a family, but depends on what you feel is important in life. It is an amazing experience. The Ironbridge is the oldest Iron built bridge in the World and this was the place that founded the industrial revolution.

We visited Blists Hill, Enginuity, Iton Museum and the Coalport museums. Really enjoyed Blists Hill where we chatted to many of the staff and learnt a lot. Enginuity is very much for children so we wasted time going there with no kids. We thought that the cost of the annual pass was worth it for Blists Hill alone and everything else was a bonus. The Tar Tunnel was closed until Spring which was a shame. I can’t not mention the car parking which we paid for at each location - come on, stop milking your customers, I’d have spent the same or more on a coffee / gifts but felt like I was being robbed. And no receipts at any car park. You need to sort that out.

We had a great day out. We took our 2 boys aged 6 and 10. They enjoyed the Victorian fairground, and the actors all dressed up in Victorian clothes. The actors were all very knowledgeable and engaging.

Big tip for first timers; there is no Ironbridge Gorge Museum! There are 10 museums in the Iron bridge Gorge. If you don’t know this it can be confusing as to where in Iron bridge Gorge you should be going.
We googled Iron bridge Gorge museum and booked our tickets thinking that we were going to the Ironbridge Gorge Museum (which doesn’t exist). We’d actually booked the Blist Hill Museum in Iron bridge Gorge. Do your homework people and save yourself half an hour working this out when you get there!!

Other than that, loads to see and do and very beautiful scenery.

Enjoy.

Visited in July 2021. The museums are very well laid out but because Ironbridge is such an important part of British history there is such as lot to see over various sites and it is probably best to buy a museum passport and do your viewings over several days. The passport is valid for twelve months so you could take the opportunity to revisit Ironbridge and make the most of the time.

Well worth a visit.
