Well worth a look

Knowledgeable staff and very interesting exhibits. Lots to see in one small room. Fine for my 5yr old son, but may be a little scary for some youngsters.

Great hidden gem

Finally got around to coming here! The waiting list is long but well worth it! It’s small but fascinating. There was two students who took us around, one mainly spoke about which pieces in the museum were the most interesting and gave quirky facts!

We had a quick scope around of the pieces from small skulls to fish in jars, prisoner or war’s skeleton and taxidermy bats! Such an amazing place!

A must see

A great small museum to engage children and adults in science. Great to visit as part of the university’s discovery’s night

Fascinating

A hidden gem in the heart of the university. Fasinating specimens and lots to learn about. Shame that it is very limited opening hours, so much more could be made of this place.
attended a workshop here and was amazed that I had lived in Sheffield so long and never heard of this place before.

Fantastic Hidden Museum
Jul 2017 • Family
As others have said, I've lived in Sheffield all my life and had no idea that this place existed. What a great little museum.

Once you find the entrance, you're met by knowledgeable and friendly student guides and taken up to the museum. They spend the first 10 minutes explaining interesting items and then you have the rest of the hour to look around. The guides are always there to answer questions.

It's small but packed full of interesting exhibits. I loved it, as did my kids.

Best of all it's free!

What a fantastic hidden gem.Ive lived in Sheffield all my life,46 years, and have only just discovered this place!! I took my two young children,6 and 9, they loved it.It may only be small, but there's lots to see.It only lasts an hour with a guided part,by the very knowledgable and charming students lasting about 20 minutes. If you love zoology this is right up your street. If you don't,it's still worth a visit!!!

Mini museum
Aug 2016 • Family
Fantastic mini museum.
We booked through the university website mid-week prior to the Saturday tour. All very straight forward.
We had a lovely tour guide who showed us round the museum, giving us little bits of information and facts etc.
Once the tour had finished we had free time to explore the musum. In total the tour and free time lasted a duration of 45minutes.
The museum was an interest of mine and my partners, we did take our 2 year old son which was a little tricky but he was easily distracted and we could at times pop out if he got agitated.
Definitely a must for children 4+years.

Dear Kevin, I'm sorry to hear you haven't been able to get in contact. The museum is open on the first Saturday of each month only, and a free tour must be booked in advance via our online booking system: http://www.shef.ac.uk/alfred-denny-museum/book-your-place. Tours run at 10:00, 11:00, and 12:00. If you would still like to visit, our next tour date is this Saturday (06 August). We hope you will book a place and give us the chance to change your mind about the museum! Kind regards Nicola

Hidden gem within the university
Aug 2015 • Family
We went here for an education trip. As a family we were amazed at the specimens on display and that we had never previously heard that the museum exists! The workshops that run from there were excellent and the kids learnt loads!
