I received tickets as a gift from a Covid-afflicted family member who emphatically insisted that the Theatre must not suffer her inability to attend. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a partner to enjoy them with but decided on a whim, to attend alone.

Access was simple and quick from the stunningly photographic square housing the brightly lit entrances to the world famous Crucible and the spectacular Winter Gardens. I was able, from the street, to enter, purchase a program, "make a visit" and get seated outside my door all within the space of around ten minutes which from my experience of London theatres, is a definite improvement.

The Lyceum is a delightful building. In a city that has an oddly tempestuous relationship with it's historical buildings, it seems that it fell just right to be rescued from the ignominy that besets many other similarly pedigreed buildings around the City.

Watching the performance of "The Nutcracker" with the Russian State Ballet of Siberia was a delight. My seat was at the very front of the very front row (not a normal selection of mine but remember, these were not my seats). Cramped and distorted in the incredibly tiny row, sat astride my two seats thankful that I had a spare seat I could safely encroach upon, many around me were delighted to be offered the use of a "coat seat" as the seats were so terribly cramped as to leave absolutely no option to place bags or coats anywhere around you.

The upside though, was that we were well situated to simply raise a head and see down into the Orchestra pit, something my neighbours, a musical family if ever I saw one, clearly were thrilled by.

Up close and personal to the performance itself, took some of the grace away but added a certain power to it that I've never really experienced from halfway back in a theatre. The performers routinely caught my eye which was a new experience for me and I was enthralled with a story anew, one that I have seen countless times before.

This however is a review for the Theatre, not the performance and so I shall cut that short and simply say, the Lyceum is lovely and charming, particularly for smaller people but beware, I am an eighteen stone chap with a forty-two inch waistline and I honestly felt like I had to sit sideways to avoid being inappropriately close to the lady to my right. If I were to go again, I would have to book three seats and sit in the middle in order to relax and enjoy it. As for Covid, well, mask wearing is encouraged/enforced which I have no issue with but you are of course, allowed to remove them when eating/drinking. The proximity to others is EXTREME and at some point, almost everyone WILL have their mask off to drink or eat. Just keep that in mind.

My daughter and I went to see Peter Pan goes wrong. We booked late, and did not have much choice of tickets, so ended up on the back row of the circle. These seats were, though, extremely good value at £15 for one and £20 for the other. For the most part the view was fine. The production was very good, and seemed to be enjoyed by the audience, who cheered, booed and laughed in good measure. I didn't expect to end up cheering the crocodile! The theatre itself has been refurbished very well. The only negative, is anyone with long legs would find the seats a bit cramped, although width wise they are fine. This obviously, cannot be changed in the circle as the seats are all tiered. I had a coffee and my daughter had a diet coke in the interval, and we were pleasantly surprised by the price. If you park in the nearby Q park, remember to ask front of house staff for a ticket which gives you a free hour. Overall, we had a good evening, and would be happy to return.

Lovely family trip to the annual panto.
Nice to see mask wearing was enforced by staff during this pandemic period.
Lovely authentic theatre with a great family show put on. Lots of interaction with the crew who were enthusiastic!
Refreshments are a bit pricey but to be expected at a theatre.
Looking for our next visit already.

I waited 2 years to see heathers for this disappointment…
I had tickets to go see Heathers today at 3pm at 2 I was stuck in traffic on the M1 because there had been an accident. So, I rang the theatre telling them I might be late and asked if we would still be allowed in. They said yes don’t worry they have a late comers policy. So myself and my mum rushed to get there found a car park and then ran up 9 flights of stairs to be told on the door with 5 minutes to spare that it had been cancelled. No email. Nothing to let us know that our 1 hour journey was for nothing. The reason was that it was due to several members of the cast having covid. Which is reason enough to cancel the show. However, why only 20 minutes before we arrived (the lady on the door said) was this discovered. Shouldn’t the cast be being tested before they even get to the theatre? Surely they must have been tested before this and they hadn’t in fact only just found out ? Surely the cast would have know hours before the show was due to start before they were in full costume and makeup ? Disappointed is an understatement. And not only this but apparently the second show later on tonight is apparently still going on ? Surely if there has been people with covid in the theatre they shouldn’t be putting on the next show? I just think there could have been a much better way to handle this situation to ensure people were notified, a automated email perhaps or something would have been appreciated. Not happy at all really bad customer service on their part in my opinion.

Having visited multiple theatres this was my first time at The Lyceum to see Chicago.
The staff in the theatre were very good at getting everyone to the seats and into the venue safely.
Preordered drinks which were ready to pick up at half time, had time also to nip to the toilets and grab some icecream during the interval, which was very well organised.
The theatre has beautiful architecture and a nostalgic feel. We sat in the circle, which had Limited leg room, although a fantastic view, which made up for the lack of legroom.
Chicago was amazing, well choreographed and the band were excellent.
Thank you for hosting such a great show!

A brilliant show at the Lyceum last night, with the hit musical returning to Sheffield after its run at the West End. The whole cast were fantastic and the story, songs and staging result in a memorable show. My kids particularly enjoyed the various Sheffield references and in-jokes throughout.

Went here for the Christmas Panto with Family. I love traditional pantos and this (Cinderella) was great and enjoyed by all with ages from 4 to 69. The theatre itself was restored some years ago to it's original glories and is simply a magnificent building and auditorium. A fantastic facility for Sheffield and a great place for thaetre and musicals.

Went last night to see Rocky Horror show. Wow. Amazing performance and great atmosphere (it was the final show). I have seen a few shows here and always come to the pantomime at Christmas. Last year was amazing as always. I treated myself to membership last year and have just renewed. Love the theatre, shows are always a high standard and staff very nice. Already got Sister Act, Dirty Dancing and the Take That musical booked as as panto this year! Very proud to have the Lyceum in my home city! For those that don't know Sheffield, it is a 10/15 minute walk (up hill) from the train and bus station. Tram stop is 5 minutes walk away.
