About
Millhouses Park is located approximately 3 miles south-west of Sheffield City Centre. Part of the park was gifted by Earl Fitzwilliam & Marquis of Zetland in 1909, with the remainder purchased by Sheffield City Council. Recent improvements include the Splash! project, located on the site of the old swimming pool and lido and reintroduces water play into the park, many years after the lido was closed and filled in. It is an interactive play area designed to be both playful and educational with kit such as an Archimedes screw, hand pumps and see saws that pump water into a large snaking channel, where it can be dammed in several places before being scooped by a water wheel and fed into a recycling tank. The water then feeds the toilets, can be used to water plants and tops up the boating lake. The Fishway project has seen the old paddling pools filled in and converted into natural habitat that will allow fish such as trout to bypass the two weirs on the River Sheaf and move upstream to spawn. The design is very complex and incorporates rock pools, overhangs and resting places and mimics their natural habitat as much as possible. Park Facilities include:On-Site Parking2 multi-purpose fields Outdoor Gym Skate Park Obstacle Course Traditional Playground Zipwire SPLASH! A lovely park spoilt by lack of attention to detail. Not enough dog poop bins. No where near enough toilets. One particular tree should had have some kind of safety gate and or warning around it. The base looks ready to fall. Rotton to dangerous. If it fell it could kill someone. Very very dangerous. There is only 1 cafe which is expensive. It needed cleaning up outside.

Once one of the prides of the city the park is decayed - but is still worth a visit.

In spring the daffodils planted in memory of Malcolm Leake provide a beautiful swathe of colour - not visible from the road.

In summer the childrens playground is still very popular as is the boating lake. The fairground is a mixed blessing

The tennis courts and putting green still run while the cafe's lunches and food are (like much of this part of Sheffield) a well kept secret.

In autumn the backdrop of Hutcliff wood gives the park a background of browns and oranges that catch the eye as you drive down Abbeydale Road.

Finally, in winter the gentle slopes from the road to the grass (where the daffs are in spring) provide nursery slopes for toboggans and sledges for all ages.

If history is of interest the take off weirs still exist for the grinding hulls and the old mill. The old mill buildings still stand - although they are much in need of some renovation.

The cricket pitch is one of the cities high grade pitches - with matches most saturdays or sundays during the summer.

The park butts up to the northern edge of Ecclesall Woods - over 2 square miles of ancient woodland now almost surrounded by housing - but it is still possible to walk from the park thrpough the woods and open fields to the Peak District moorland at Ringinglow.

The lido has gone and the paddling pools need renovating, but the park is still a great place to go on a nice day in any season

safe, clean, nice to walk around, or even run if you fancy the exercise. there is a football net, bowling greem, tennis court, cricket pitch, crazy golf a stream, and now they have a water play area, where kids (and adults if you feel like it) of any age can have fun.

the stream has recently been re done over the last year or so, and now it looks fantastic. i would say though is that peopel like to paddle in it and it isnt partiuculary friendly to your feet because of all the rocks, but it doesnt seem to stop people.

i havent used the cafe there, but always see people sitting out side watching their families play and they have bistro nights most summer months.

woudl highly recommend you vist if you havent done so already,

We love Millhouses Park it is great for all ages so much to do a great location. The cafe really lets it down. For 2 tiny salads and drinks we paid £18 today! Open the kiosk every day or go to lovely Martha Heritage across the road where service comes with a smile. This could be a lovely place but not at these prices it is a basic cafe with extortionate prices. Take a picnic and flask.Go on the pedalo boats, walk in the sensory garden, take the little ones to the excellent playground. Or play tennis!

I love the park and the flowers, there is plenty to do, nice and green, and the water is lovely. Unfortunately there is a but (pun intended). Sat on the grass with friends (a mix of male and female ) enjoying the nice clean park and the sun when a group of boys probably 16/17 came out of the river just wearing there underwear. Bit shocked at the sight and the fact they don't realise white clothing turns see through when wet. Made us all a bit uneasy. Is there no rules on clothing to be worn in the park or park attendants to oversee things like that? Great park, love it. But all where made uncomfortable since they where sat close to our group drying off in there underwear.

I have been going to the park since I was little , now I go with my children they love the play area and as it's flat excellent for learning to ride a bike, we walk the dog through the woods and then into the park, the children on bikes and scooters, the last time I went I only took my 6 year old and the dog, as the dog is an alsation cross, quite large and some what intimidating to those that don't know her, I stayed with her whilst my son went into the café, I felt confident my son would be perfectly ok going into the café and getting an ice cream he is the size of your average 9 year old and can count. he went to the counter behind other people and waited and waited, he was totally ignored by the staff he isn't that small, they served others over his head! Thankfully the lovely lady on the inflatables improved our spirits and the ice cream van was early so we went to him he didn't ignore my son or his money.

I am a member of the model boat club at millhouses , We sail 3 times a week , but over the last 3 years the lake has been neglected , The water is filthy , in summer the lake is covered in weeds which makes it very difficult to sail our models . We share the lake with the pedal boats , But over the last 12 months the number of pedalos have increased in size and number to over 20 . In my opinion too many . The children who use them seem to be very young and should not be allowed at their age . There should be an age limit , If there is it does not seem to be observed . quite a few of our models have been damaged due to young children in the pedal boats .

I used to visit here with my husban when we first met and then with our three children who are all now adults. What a shock. It appears so neglected. This was once a lovely place that one could easily spend a full day in.It used to be so clean.A once lovely place gone to rack and ruin.

Hello Airstream, I hope you're well! I'm sorry to see that you've had a bad experience in Millhouses Park. We work hard to ensure that the park is welcoming and well maintained, so I was really concerned when I read your review, especially as it is VERY different to most of the reviews we have. Please could you let the Friends of Millhouses Park know which areas of the park you feel are neglected or dirty and which areas have gone to rack and ruin. I was in the park myself today and apart from the inevitable damage to grassed areas due to the recent very wet weather and the planted areas which have still yet to come to life this spring I didn't see any areas which were as you described? The Friends of Millhouses Park would really appreciate your views on this - our 'contact' link can be found on our website, or you can 'like' our facebook page to leave a comment. We look forward to hearing from you! Kind regards Richard.

Once the pride of the City encouraging folks to travel by the bus load in the summer from all over South Yorkshire, it is now reduced to a boggy run down mess due to lack of money.
The paddling pool is a derelict dangerous eyesore, where the out door swimming pool once was is now a levelled field of wild plants surrounding a few new toys for little children.
The car park in the winter is more like an off-road course and in summer is used by teenagers at night as a dirt race circuit.
We all hope one day it will return to it's former glory.

Thanks for the review - obviously since 2002 there have been many changes in the park and I would encourage people to look at the more recent reviews given here which better reflect the park as it is now. New facilities installed include the splash play area, skatepark, outdoor gym, children's play area, fish ladder, basketball court, sensory garden and many more. We hold annual events here now such as Cliffhanger and there are lots of improvements to come such as the installation of a zip line, children's cycleway and the restoration of the mill buildings at the north end of the park. Why not revisit the park and leave a new review - it would be great to see your opinion now!!!
