Lots to see for both children and adults
Jul 2021 • Friends
Went to see the Rubens to Sickert: the Study of Drawing (on until 7.08.2021) and the temporary Jackson's Corner Department store exhibition (now closed).
Of course, you can't not visit the Huntley and Palmers biscuit factory gallery where they have so many beautiful old decorative tins, advertisement posters, machinery and biscuit samples to look at.
The Bayeux Tapestry is humongous and the trail of ceramics, sculptures, paintings, and artifacts throughout the building are charming.
So much to see ! And very clean, safe with Covid measures in place.

Day out

There are a lot to improve
The public need to see things that go way back in history not stuff that is displayed now
I went here and I was not impressed in the layout
And not a lot of things to look at too

Great collection of local sourced Roman Artefacts, of particular interest to me. Museum is not too large which I find refreshing as i found I had plenty of time to see eveything which is some case is not possible

I have been wanting to revisit for years, particularly to visit the Silchester Gallery and see the replica Bayeux Tapestry. Also enjoyed the Abbey Ruins and Forbury Park nearby

A hidden gem!
Oct 2020
My husband and I visited this museum very recently. Because of COVID and safety restrictions you need to book a timed visit which can be done online. It is free entry but they do rely heavily on donations. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The museum is located in part of the Town Hall Building. We received a very friendly welcome and shown a map and given lots of information of what to see on the three floors of the building. Lots to see and to learn about the history of Reading known as the ‘biscuit town’. Most importantly Huntley and Palmers and the history of this famous biscuit company established in Reading. The highlight is the life size replica of The Bayeux Tapestry which was recreated by the Leek Embroidery Society in 1885-6 and took over a year to complete with the written story

Bayeux tapestry
Nov 2019 • Family
Been here a few times with the children. Really well laid out and very educational about Reading and Berkshire. Also features part of the Bayeux Tappesty which I’m sure the children will remember (I hope at least) for the rest of their lives. Spend about an hour or two in here easily.

A hidden gem of a museum
Feb 2020
Spent a great day with my class exploring the museum and enjoying an interactive Bayeux Tapestry workshop. Richard was extremely knowledgeable and had lots of facts to share with the children about the story leading up to the Battle of Hastings. The history of Reading exhibition treasure hunt turned out to be a good idea as were the 'I spy' picture bingo cards.
The flat white was rather delicious too!

Well worth a visit

Most people know very little about the amazing history of Reading. Well worth a visit, as are the Abbey ruins.
