Erected in 1887 to celebrate the queen's golden jubillee, the statue stands in a square in central Reading. It is apparently the work of the same local sculptor responsible for the nearby Waiwand Lion. Since most places of any size seem to have erected a...More

The statue symbolize the glory of the former British Empire. It's also a landmark to meet friends coming to Reading, located near the town hall, Reading Museum and Reading Station.

I walked past the Queen Victoria statue barely noticing it when walking through Reading town centre. It’s a decent enough statue but just not stunning or memorable.

At least Reading shows it's respect for our once long serving Queen, the statue in Friar Street is cared for & she stands majestic as intended unlike the very similar statue of the Queen that was presented to Newbury & sat for a short time...More

I'm sure this likeness of Queen Victoria looked superb 60+ years ago, but today it's almost unrecognizable. The stonework, including the plinth, require major restoration before it's completely beyond repair. The statue is also an area of congregation for street drinkers, addicts, and the homeless,...More

Back in the day this statue was probably more prominent but now it seems out of place and certainly looks its age. However, it’s still worth a short pause to take it in as you walk past.

This statue makes me remember good old days and when I see it I understand I am in the centre. It is next to the Reading museum and very close to the station as well.

The statue is pretty much as the name implies Queen Victoria. Similar statues can be seen in many cities around the world. Nothing special but shows what an important figure she was during her reign.

If you are walking around central Reading you may spot ths statue outside the Town Hall. It is not special and so easy to miss. For great monuments head about 150m East toward Forbury Gardens.
