A nice little pub away from the bustle of the station. If you want to drink fizzy chain pub wee wee then this isn’t the place for you. A great gin menu with an excellent choice of lagers, ales, bitters & stout on tap.
If this was my local my dog would be on autopilot to come here on her walks.

Didn’t realise how close this pub is to the station and so a convenient last port of call on our group pub crawl around Reading. Doesn’t look much from the outside but they’ve a good selection of beer, plenty of seating and staff were friendly.

Great little friendly independent pub pretty much opposite Reading railway station.

Always a good selection of beers and now an extensive selection of gin (some well known and some unheard of!)

Quiz nights are held every two weeks (actual dates always advertised on Facebook) Excellent and testing quiz master who goes out of his way to make everyone welcome and sets a testing and enjoyable quiz!

Some seating outside now - a great addition, although the location of the taxi rank and the drivers who seem quite happy to leave their engines running for long periods spoils the ‘fresh air’ advantage!

Really wanted to like this place but was too expensive and rammed with office yuppies for my taste. Beer selection is good but four fifty for a pint is a bit much!

Stopped in between trains as this place is close to the station. A superb range of ales and gin if that is your fancy are on offer. Being a colder day the wife just wanted a coffee while I savoured a pint. 'we don't do coffee' came the reply, when I asked what the coffee machine was on the back of the bar, 'its broken' came the retort. Ok, how about a tea? 'we can't do hot drinks' through the barstaffs gritted teeth. well here is an idea, a kettle! less than a tenner from Argos, simples! And as the wife said would be an ok place without the attitude, couldn't have put it better myself.

Love this pub. Especially location. Lots of choice for beer, cider and gin! Friendly atmosphere and some comfy seating.
I have to say if they need some VM advice I would be happy to help ;-p they could definitely improve in style but overall it's OK as it is.

Yes, I recommend it!
Cheers

This pub reminds me a lot of the Nags head in reading but is a lot closer to the town centre. I enjoyed the vast selection of beers available in particular the delirium Belgium beer on tap which is worth the price! There is a rotation of the house ales and beers which is good as you don't get stuck with the same for too long. The atmosphere was very chilled out for a sat night, good mix of old and young. Dart board and various board games available.

For regulars of the London craft beer scene The Greyfriars will feel comfortably familiar: half a dozen cask ales, and another half dozen craft kegs, couple of ciders, and a bottled range, all from small producers. Staff were knowledgeable and enthusiastic about their products.
Interior: lots of bare wood and minimalist in style. Does food, but only weekday lunchtimes which was not when called in, so can't comment on that aspect.
Quite generous CAMRA discount on the cask ales; but naturally doesn't apply to the kegs, where some prices are a little eye-watering.
Couple of minutes walk from Reading Railway Station. Smokers have to resort to the street as there is nowhere else to go.

Nice beer and a comfortable place to while away any time you have spare before a train trip. Warm and welcoming pub.
