Stopped off for a quick bite to eat before our trip to Cardiff. Amazing burger and I believe the best in Reading town centre. Service was good, beer was excellent and I would highly recommend the place.

Just love this place, great chilled vibes, amazing drinks and plenty of space to sit. Good food too. Cute retro decor as well. Met my husband here and love returning for the memories

A colleague and I went for an impromptu drink post-lockdown and were considering staying for a bite to eat. Upon arriving we noticed another group of colleagues that we hadn't seen in a while and wanted to say hello to.
I don't know if he was having a bad day (I appreciate people have bad days) but the individual who seated us was positively awful to interact with...
We were sat down at a table for 2 very far away from the colleagues that we spotted and so politely asked if we could sit a little closer on one of the many many empty tables nearby to say hello briefly. He immediately responded, "no, you can not sit with them and under no circumstances can you interact with them". We weren't asking to sit with them so this was an unnecessarily abrupt response to a polite request that wasn't breaking the rules.
That wasn't all...
It was extremely humid in the pub and I started to feel really warm. I tucked my head outside to see around 4-5 tables unoccupied and asked if it was possible to sit out there with my colleague (just the 2 of us). I was then met again with the rudest tone as he very emotionally explained that every single table in and outside of the venue was booked from the moment we arrived for the rest of the evening. I then asked if I could sit there until they arrived as I was very warm and the answer was a firm no. Not 1 person entered the pub for the next hour that we were there and there were 10+ tables supposedly booked.
I want to be clear that this review isn't about the restrictions or how infelxible they were but more about the poor communication of the people that were working there that evening. The requests weren't breaking the rules and the way this staff member spoke to us was awful.
We would've stayed for food and maybe even a few more drinks. For a pub that was EMPTY and probably appreciative of custom, I was so surprised. I wouldn't want someone like him working for my business.

Went in for a cheeky drink with the other half. Decor is trying to be shabby chic, but only manages shabby.
a bottle of mexican lager cost over £4. That's worse than london prices.
Also, price boards were out of date and showed cheaper.
Lastly, the barstaff need to be trained better: negro modelo is not served with a lime wedge shoved in the bottle, and even if it were it would not be one that is yellowing and dried up.

Having lived in reading for about 10 years I have visited this bar many times but not for a while recently. Went there last night just to wind down at the end of the working week, for a start they have massively hiked up the drink prices, just under a tenner for two beers, don't get me wrong I would pay that - in London perhaps! The crowd was as usual mixed which was good, however it was a lot quitier than usual and it certainly cleared out further (myself included) when the entertainment for the evening turned out to be a rapping event - not my cup of tea!

This is the best bar I’ve ever been too. The staff are amazing. The selection of beers/spirits/wines are second to none. If this bar was a person It would probably be Nelson Mandela.
