Last time I was on a British train was in the 1960's, at the end of the stream era, when stations were usually fairly messy, dirty places, withn staff who were a bunch of jobsworths. We ran stopped at Reading to change trains for Plymouth on our UK holiday from overseas,. What a change, a beautifully functioning facility, clean and tidy, well sign directed...but we did't need to bother with that. As soon as we stepped off the train, a young staffer asked us whether he could help us with our luggage, up ,and over the lift system, to the other platform. What a legend, he must have thought we were really old!!!! Nice lad,. Well done the Rail service, it makes it a pleasure to travel on the train network.

The station was very clean and tidy. The staff were very helpful as always. The train indicator told us everything we needed. The shops on the concourse suited our needs.

We changed trains on our way back to Oxford from Cardiff. Station is bigger, better, and more organised, though it looks as if trains to Paddington now have fewer seats

If only more railways stations were as elegant and user-friendly as this one. Love the curved roof design and the incredibly long escalators up to the platforms from the entrance near the car park. It has a real feeling of space, which is sadly lacking in most busy stations like this one. Very impressive.
