What an absolutely awful experience! After a lovely journey 1st Class from Gloucester to Reading the wait at Reading for nearly an hour on a freezing cold platform to wait for a train to Gatwick was appalling. Not just no First Class waiting room but hardly a waiting room at all. There was a freezing cold area near some toilets at Platform 7B (the closest to the Gatwick/Heathrow trains). I was actually shocked to find that a Station with supposedly so much spent on it in the last couple of years could be this bad. Heaven only knows what it would be like in really cold weather. Its uninviting, unfriendly and generally unappealing. Why would anyone use Public Transport? Get it right GWR. This is just not good enough.

I would like to mention that there are people with class and class of people. i normally take the Elisabeth line to go to greenford, i have been doing It for a while, normally i go to buy the ticket to the station because i like physical tickets, and i am always attended by very nice staff that has been advicing me mwith the BEST most suitable options for me. Today i was unlucky and the lady wasn't aware ( i prefer to think this rather than she was pushing profits) apparently about the different options and wanted to sell me tickets to central London and from there underground ( that is £60 with the underground with return) i told her that normally her colleagues sell me tickets to slough and from slough to greenford, she looked at me like i am stupid and after trying different things said was not possible so sold me the ticket to ealing for £38.40, i told her that normally is £28/29, apart of looking at me like i am wasting her time and tell that is because the rush hour, intried to explain that there is an options cheaper because i do It twice per week.....i think she honestly didn't bother even to look at it because my accent and made me feel uncomfortable and i left. Just let you know "Madame" i bought tickets online for tomorrow for £29.90 with open return. Next time if a costumer ask you for alternatives, be honest and say you don't know others options instead treating people like we are
idiots" , today you cost me £10+ underground plus an uncomfortable moment, thank you Yasmin.

The railway station in central Reading has three entrances, two booking offices and a variety of eating areas inside and outside the gate lines - and a lot of friendly and helpful staff. it also has 15 platforms, linked by a wide transfer deck (footbridge) with lifts and escalators. As many of the platforms can have trains at both ends, be careful where you are going. Plans of the station to assist the uninitiated are available on line. Enjoy your trips.

Clean modern well-ordered station. I was here on a Rail Rover for a week, so used the station every day to visit different places along the Thames Valley. Easy to find your way around, clean toilets and helpful staff. An M&S shop and WH Smiths available to buy food/snacks.
Only negative thing was that it was not possible to get ANY pocket timetables! (COVID being the reason/excuse). Not good for those who do not have/are not able to use a Smartphone (and even then you can't look at a big table of times on such a small screen). PLEASE PLEASE - GWR & the other Rail companies, bring back the printed timetables as soon as you can. Printing off the Internet from Websites involves carrying around a lot of heavy A4 sheets of paper (assuming you have a decent printer, Internet etc).
Not really the Station's fault, but the Rail companies!

If only more railways stations were as elegant and user-friendly as this one. Love the curved roof design and the incredibly long escalators up to the platforms from the entrance near the car park. It has a real feeling of space, which is sadly lacking in most busy stations like this one. Very impressive.

Spacious, clean, friendly and helpful staff, easy to see journey details on plenty of screens. Good lifts. Close to town centre, with nearby parking (though this is expensive).

Having lived in Reading for over 30 years and using the "old" railway station I must admit I was not looking forward to the big changes they had planned , however , I am finding the new layout far easier to navigate and the huge escalators , although looking scary are a boon...never expected to say that !!!! It is kept quite clean considering the high footfall...I am impressed !!!

I have been to an uncountable amount of stations in my time. From China, America, Iceland to name a few. Trains are normally my favourite mode of transport. But not today.
Coming from St Ives, Cornwall, I was almost insulted to see a Cornish pasty shop in the middle of the station. I threw it away. Firstly my train was delayed because of some leaves on the track, obviously a trains weakness.
Secondly the train was moved platform and the senseless staff had no idea where to send me, when a friendly member of staff finally told me which train to get on... it was a fast train to Manchester Piccadilly, I was going to Cornwall... Nice one.
So after a 3 and a half hour trip to Manchester, I pay £80 for a hotel then find it is a 14 hour trip back...
