Whether it is your first time in Reading or you're a resident I would recommend any and all of Terry’s tours for several reasons. First of all, they are interesting. If you have been on one or many, you will probably learn something about the town that you did not know. Second, he does it for charity and to promote the town's heritage. His charities change but on any given day, he can tell you where the money is going. And the third reason is to get out and see the town. Every tour is different, even if it is the same path. He makes it unique for the group and the group makes it dynamic. He adapts the discussions to the feedback that he gets from the people in the group. It can be hard to hear at times but he does his best to try to stop the groups in places that provide a quiet place to ask questions. If you want to ask questions, walk up front with him and quiz him. He is very personable and friendly. This particular walk took us around Caversham from the bridge to the library and covered several miles with him providing a great presentation about the history of the architecture, people, and places that we passed and visited. I enjoyed the tour so much that I took another longer one of the 7 bridges but that is a review for another time. Overall, I highly recommend any of his tours if you are in Reading.

Hi, Sorry for the delay in responding! Thank you for finding the time to write such a detailed and accurate review on my walkabout. I remember you both so well, with you coming on all 4 Walkabouts in the Heritage Open Days Week!! That really impressed me and you be from across the pond, but we gelled from the first to the last of those 4 Walkabouts!

This was a really interesting 2 hour walk primarily about the history of Huntley & Palmers (H&P) but included many other interesting facts about Reading. I’ve lived here for nearly 25 years and my friend nearly 50 and there was so much we just didn’t know and things we’d never noticed before. We finished at the MERL (Museum of English Rural Life) and whilst we couldn’t stay for a cuppa it looks well worth a visit.

Whether your a local or just visiting I really recommend signing up to find out more about the history of the town. Terry is extremely knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what he is doing.

I’m looking forward to joining more of these in the future so I can find out more about my local area.

Hi Claire, Thank you for such an informative & detailed review. A larger than normal sized group, but it was just as enjoyable. You were both good company & I hope you both come on one of my 17 different Themed Routes soon. Thank you for recognizing my passion and as you say, I have lived here all my 64 years and I'm still learning fascinating facts about my home town!

Informative and entertaining. Terry has an immense knowledge of Reading which he shares well with the groups he takes round. His enthusiasm is contagious and, as someone who has lived in Reading for many years, it is very enlightening to be told what a very important place that Reading has been to the history of this country. Also the fact that Terry does all these various walks in order to raise money for charity only taking out his running costs is very commendable. He really makes the walks very enjoyable, looking forward the next one!

Terry is a very knowledgeable and welcoming guide. He puts a lot of preparation work into each of his walks and has such encyclopedic knowledge of the town and it's history that he could talk all day but manages (mostly!) to keep on track with the theme of the current tour.
Even for those who have lived in Reading for years there is something new to be learnt at every stop.

Did a fantastic guided walk of Caversham, Reading with Terry today. Although have lived in Reading for many years, this is an area I am less familiar with. Terry took us on a wonderful, enthralling tour informing and explaining about the history of the area and some of its buildings. I will go back for another walk in the area and will sign up to another of Terry's tours.

Getting familiar with a town or city whether you are just visiting or moving there is always better when you have the help of someone who has grown up there. Terry is a fantastic guide who gives you a history of Reading, its people, its culture, and its architecture. He is very knowledgeable, full of interesting facts and stories. I took his "Town Centre" walkabout. He has 16 tours that he has created and I hope to take more the next time I'm in town.

A 2 hour walk around 3 conservation areas, closely connected to the Huntley & Palmers Biscuits, and with particular attention to the wonderful Victorian architecture. Fascinating stories from Terry in his unique friendly and enthusiastic style. Terry knows a lot about brickwork which made the walk even more interesting. Lots of chat and interaction with the friendly group. The walk ended near the Museum of English Rural Life where we enjoyed a delicious sandwich and much needed cuppa! Thoroughly recommended.

Hi Chris, sorry for my tardy response, my only defence is I have been so busy planning & delivering my current & 2 New 2023 Walkabouts! Happy New Year and Thank you for finding the time to leave a detailed Review. It is much appreciated and helps new people understand what I do & the friendly culture I create on Guided Walkabouts. The visit at the end to MERL (Museum of English Rural Life) has been a very good decision. Bye for now and thank you for appreciating how much time and effort I put in! I hope to see you again this year!

Went on Terry's rare repeat of Baker Street, Russell Street & Castle Hill walkabout last week. It was very interesting and Terry was very informative and passionate about the conservation Area's on this walk. We learnt so much about the architecture of the houses and different sorts of bricks. We ended up at a local watering hole in the area Rose and Thistle pub where some of us had lunch and a pint. Very enjoyable it was too. I really recommend Terry's Reading Walkabouts for anybody interested in all things Reading and are interested in history, architecture, conservation, photography and want an enjoyable interesting walk

Hi Yvonne, thank you for writing this review after coming on my Baker St, Russell St & Castle Hill Conservation Area Walkabout. You were part of a very diverse & attentive group of walkers. It is so nice you have included so much detail, that is both a great testament and will be very useful for potential walkers. I know you have done several of my Walkabouts & I hope to see you again soon.

On Sunday I joined Terry's Walkabout on a special tour of Prospect Park in Reading. It was part of the Jubilation day out. I have been using Prospect Park since I was a child - picnics and games of rounders as a child and walking and car boots as an adult and I thought I pretty much knew all about it but Terry had masses of anecdotes and stories that made me look at it in a new light. We were a mixed group on the walk,, both adults and children, and it worked well on all levels. The walk is at a pace that suited us all and there was plenty of time for questions.

Because of my delight in this walk, I have booked another for later this year that links into the Huntley and Palmer 200 anniversary. and I am sure I will discover things about the town that I never knew, despite living here all my life!

Hi Freda, sorry for the delay in replying, I have been so busy with my Walkabouts and other projects! It was so good to take you & the others on this special one off. Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee event.thank you for all the information and as you rightly say, there is often very interesting History, Heritage and Culture on your doorstep, just waiting for someone like me to dig up and present to you. Thank you for recognising that I put a lot of effort in to my Walkabouts, Risk assessing etc. and make sure the pace suits my audience and when I have children walking, I fully engage with them. I look forward to joining a future different Walkabout soon, meanwhile keep well! Buy for now

A lovely walk around the area I've lived in for over 32 years but taking time to stop, look at the area in a new light and listen to some important and interesting historical information. Terry is clearly passionate about his town. He took time to ensure that my needs (as a wheelchair user) were taken into account and I felt safe at all times. Stopped off for refreshments and a loo break and lovely to chat to others on the walk. Definitely something I'd recommend, even if you've lived in Reading all of your life!
