About
We first opened our doors in July 2006 and since then have welcomed more than 20,000 clients from Berkshire and beyond into our beloved Ayurveda Retreat in the heart of Reading. Open seven days a week and until 7pm weekdays, we are deeply committed to helping people improve their general health and wellbeing by offering a variety of massages, treatments and therapies. Many come to us seeking purely physical relaxation from their treatment but leave feeling mentally and emotionally much calmer, too. Our town centre location means we are easy to reach, but our peaceful and relaxing ambience means that, once inside, you will feel far removed from the hustle and bustle of town life. Totally awful and expensive mistake booking a full body massage here. Back felt worse after than before. Nowhere to relax afterwards so bright lights turned on immediately and you’re straight out. Appalling customer service. Cannot understand the positive reviews and wonder if all are genuine .

I’ve had several full body massages with the highly qualified Caroline in recent months and they have significantly improved the tension in my back and hips as well as feeling like a lovely treat. Highly recommend Ayurveda Retreat having also had many other treatments over the years.

I had a Luxurious Ayurvedic massage booked. I have had this treatment at the retreat several times before so I knew exactly what to expect. However the lady who the treatment was with refused to cater for my request. Having had the treatment several times I know you can request the pressure you would like. I requested quite a firm massage. She told me that it was a soft massage and SHE would prefer to keep it as that. As it was there was no pressure to the massage at all, I know there are elements of stroking however this was the entire massage. The Indian head massage which was included - again fair from the level I have experienced previously. At one point she was literally just moving my hair. There was absolutely no massage involved. She must have went round my eyes 20/30 times, frankly it was more of an annoyance then a relaxation. Bright lights were left on throughout so even with my eyes closed light was giving me a headache. The way she spoke to me left me feeling frustrated before we even started & the whole experience was far from relaxing & rather upsetting. I felt like I had been told off or if I was asking for something I wasn’t allowed. I booked online so the therapist was selected by the system & not myself. There was no mention online that she would only give a very soft , barely there massage. It took a month for the owner of the salon to come back to my request for a refund or partial refund of my £85( even though I raised the issue as soon on the day). The request was refused as “I had received the treatment”, not the treatment booked & paid for but still! I won’t be returning here - having been a regular for a number of years. I would suggest anyone looking for a message to actually help with their issues - stress, upset etc avoid this so called retreat at all costs !

Booked the excellent value 90 minute Vishesh massage with Tatjana. Warm, comfortable treatment room with accomodating table and built in steam and shower cabinets.
The massage itself was absolutely lush: starting with a relaxing head and shoulders massage in the chair and progressing to table time with lots of time taken to warm up and release the whole body in a really well balanced session.
I generally go for a challenging myofacial session (and currently have a list of 1 person who I have found that can do it!). Tatjana’s approach had all the benefits of deep tissue trigger point work but tempered with a lot of relaxing, sensual, and stretching strokes that left me feeling completely worked on but completely relaxed. I’ll definitely be back when my travels bring me to Reading.
A stint in the hot steam cabinet, a nice conversation, and a cup of hot tulsi tea to finish were the icing on the cake. Perfect.

I had the most rubnish jead massage. No where near proper Indian head massage. I had to pay extra £5 for shampoo after my treatment which should have been included. And guess what while I was having a shower a lady came in as there was no lock...highly unprofessional and no apology.

We pride ourselves on the quality of all types of treatments delivered here at the retreat. If you would like to email me directly on info@ayurveda-retreat.co.uk with feedback on this particular treatment and why you felt it wasn’t the same as the kind of Indian Head massage you are used to having, I would be very happy to discuss with the therapist involved.
An Indian Head Massage does not have a shower included. However we wanted to accommodate your request to have one but it is regrettable that as the other therapist wasn’t aware the shower room was in use, she walked in. I believe an apology was made and the cost of the shower was reduced by half to further apologise for any distress caused.

Wonderful relaxing abhyanga oil massage. Felt very relaxed and calm afterwards. This is the best massage retreat I have found (and have been to a few) - no other massage treatment comes anywhere close to how relaxing this is and how well I feel afterwards. It is always an absolute pleasure to visit the Ayurvedic Retreat ... just a pity that I cannot get there as often as I would like. Thank you!

Found this retreat on the internet, and was looking for a quality sports massage. What a great place, and an excellent massage sorting out my shoulder injury.

I usually go to Dorin and Maria, they both very professional and nice. Great customer experience, friendly, relaxing atmosphere. It's always an escape after a busy week.

I had my treatment for a back massage performed by the masseuse Dorine who performed a very professional treatment. For all parts of the deep back massage she performed she explained during the process what the benefit would be.
The room that I occupied was bright and clean, the decor was influenced by chinese style furnishing. After the treatment I was offered a cup of tea before going about my day. Would I recommend this salon - absolutely.
