Great little museum.

Had a lovely visit to this little museum. Lots to see in here. Would recommend that you visit if visiting Woodstock.

Lovely garden but the museum is disappointing
Aug 2021
The museum lacks much detail on Oxfordshire and is pretty generic. There is however a lovely garden, cafe and gift shop… and it’s free to visit.

Well worth visiting

Surprisingly quite a lot to see inside and the grounds are spacious.

The dinosaur garden had only one to see!

Limited facilities

We visited on a Wednesday afternoon ( they are currently closed on Mondays and Tuesdays). the museum has some good exhibitions, but the soldiers' gallery outside was closed on a Wednesday. They are also short of volunteers, and so the loos are closed ( you have to go to the public loos nearby, which cost 20p). Also there is no seating in the cafe, and so we had to shelter outside in the rain to have our drinks and cake.

These were the highlights of this rather mundane museum. So it would appear that nothing much happened after the Romans arrived. If they came back today they would have had as much difficulty parking their chariots as I did my car.I was lucky to find a space near the museum.

An 'unfusty' museum.

I really enjoyed this museum. Although it is quite small it is well presented and genuinely engaging. I particularly appreciated the Victorian display. All the presentations are 'user friendly' and imaginative. It has a pleasant ,well run cafe, walled gardens for picnics and a gift shop.

Underwhelming
Feb 2020 • Family
A little disappointed having read the reviews. Not enough for the kids, the only thing was the Dino room but this was a bit chaotic with stuff missing or broken, it is also a very small room. The video was interesting but there were only 2 headsets so be prepared to wait your turn.
The cafe is very small and the staff really struggled to cope with the lunch ‘rush’.
I would say go on a sunny day as I reckon the outside space will be stunning but it was a little small and claustrophobic for a wet day.
The cafe did have a good selection of gluten free cakes though!

a little gem
Dec 2019
We visited Woodstock over the Xmas period; it was a very good time to view the artefacts and enjoy this lovely place, covering from bronze, anglo-saxon, Roman times to the Victorian age.
There's much for children to experience too. And a great cafe with a decent selection to satisfy hunger pangs.

I spent a pleasant 45 mins in the museum whilst the wife shopped in Woodstock.
Very interesting displays of the history, geography and culture of the area.
Helpful staff and it is free!

We have visited the museum more than once and always found something of interest to look at. The staff are very helpful and welcoming. There is also a small cafe and gift shop. Well worth a visit when you are in the area.
