Oxford Castle Unlocked explores the 1000-years of Oxford's History. Led by one of our costumed character guides, the rich history of the castle with a prison at its heart will be revealed to you. I'm not usually one for castle tours but this was very entertaining! Each tour guide takes the character of someone who was a prisoner in the castle and tells the history of the castle as well as their story. Our guide was a brilliant speaker and kept everyone's attention well. There is plenty of interesting history to learn about and... More

This is a great tour. Depending on who you get to lead the tour, you get a real character from the Oxford castle history. We had Mary Blandon. She did a fantastic job, very real and compelling. Also informative, this was a very interesting place to explore. I highly recommend you take this one if you are in Oxford.

We visited the castle with our grandchildren, easy to find a park within 2 mins of the entrance cost £7 for 3 hrs bit steep. Went to the cafe within the walls and had reasonable meals, not great choices and a bit pricy! Met by a tour guide who portrayed the prison head keeper Elizabeth Etty. Great conducted tour, also... My family and I recently visited Oxford for the day. We went to Oxford Castle to enquire about their tour. The staff we extremely helpful. Not only did they give us detailed information about the castle and its history, but once they discovered this was our first time in Oxford they kindly gave us their recommendations of places to see... This tour is fabulous in that it really brings the history of the castle to life. Each tour is led by a character associated with the castle. Our guide, 'Mary Blandy', was excellent and very engaging. For the first quarter of the tour you climb the steps of St George's Tower - pausing half-way to learn a bit more about... More

Our party consisted of surly teenagers through to OAP'S on the hottest day of this year 35 degree heat. Isaac Darlkin , a most erudite, amusing and very dramatic highwayman spirited us through the castle/ prison. Would like to apologise to our fellow tourists for a teenagers outburst but she has a genuine phobia with all things ghostly and cheese... More

Had the tour that lasted an hour, gave a great deal of detail of the history of the castle & some of its famous previous occupiers. Was very interesting & glad we went.

This museum is unique. The thousand year-old tower was once part of a castle. For several hundred years it was a prison. A costume tour guide will take one through the ancient building. My Guide Was well-informed using humor and fact to make the tour exciting. The crypt under the castle has some fun ghost stories related to it. The... More

Took the tour on a whim and it was really interesting. The tour guide who took us round was knowledgable and his enthusiasm was infectious. You have a great view of Oxford from the tower and if you are lucky, you might even see ghosts
