Great beer and location
Sep 2021 • Couples
A really nice inn down a alley off the main shopping road. Really nice ambiance with nice tables inside the courtyard outside. Lovely old world charm.
They had Timmy Taylor’s Landlord on tap and it was beautifully kept. The caller man knows his stuff.
So a great place for a nicely kept pint.

Nice place to rest and have a drink.

We called in here on Saturday late afternoon 21 August just for drinks. We found a table outside near the big screen and enjoyed the atmosphere and drinks. Inside The Crown it has a lovely old setting with superb beams and a warm feeling of an old historical bar area. Outside was very busy and we were very lucky to get the table we had. Some table and chairs outside have coverings over them and cushioned bench seats. Nice place to visit and relax.

Had a lovely lunch today. Was busy but not too much waiting time for service or ordering. Delicious food

Absolutely appalling welcome
Sep 2020 • Couples
visited on a very quiet Tuesday evening. My wife and I stood at the roped off entrance waiting for a member of staff to come and let us know if a table was available. Eventually a member of staff appeared. We asked for a table for two and was asked to scan their track and trace form which we did. At this point she walked off leaving us both standing there. After a further 5 minutes I removed the rope myself and walked into the pub and found numerous empty tables and the member of staff who left us standing behind the bar laughing and joking with her colleague. We had been totally forgotten about! We told her this and she said it was because we had to first do the track and trace before we could enter. How long did she think this would take? why walk off and leave us? At this point we just walked out as it seemed the pub were doing us a favour by letting us in. We won't stay where we are not welcome. We went round the corner to a Greene King pub where we were warmly welcomed and shown to our table. These are difficult times, but the lady member of staff at the Crown seems drunk with power over who she welcomes onto the premises.

Friendly service
Jul 2020
Friendly service, middle of the city, reasonably priced varied menu. Sat outside where there was a choice of covered or uncovered seating.

Cosy little pub
Mar 2020 • Couples
Had a look in here when searching for an early dinner on a Sunday afternoon in mid March. Menu looked good so we stayed and glad we did. Darkish seated area to the left as you walk in just down from the bar but had that cosy feel to it. We had the salmon and sea bass and both were very tasty and enjoyable. Never had mussels served with sea bass before but a nice touch. Would definitely return in the future, whenever the hell that may be in the current climate.

Evening Meal
Mar 2020 • Couples
My husband and I have just had an evening meal at the Crown and were very impressed. I had called earlier in the day to book a table, explained that he was temporarily on crutches, so they reserved a table which was very suitable for the evening. The meal was lovely - a fish pie and a smoked salmon salad, followed by sticky toffee pudding. The waitress couldn’t have done more for us, ensuring that we had everything we needed and offered to ring drinks rather than me having to go to the bar. The meal was served incredibly quickly.

The pub had clearly been busy due to the 6 Nations rugby and the staff at times were running around to clear tables to ensure good service. If we were staying in Oxford any longer, we would definitely return. Many thanks.

Good Traditional Pub & Roast
Feb 2020
Stopped in Oxford on way home looking for some shopping and a roast. Recommended The Crown by a pub that had stopped doing roasts (it was 4ish).
Quite busy for a Sunday afternoon but we found a place to sit. Drinks and roasts ordered. All fairly priced considering we were in centre of Oxford. Roast beef was very good with decent amount of well cooked beef. Nice selection of fresh veg. On the whole very good. Would come back and eat here again.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Nice traditional English pub, nice seating outside with 2 tvs showing the rugby.
Well worth a visit.

It was exactly as expected
Aug 2019
We looked up places to eat before arriving in Oxford, and although there are a couple of poor reviews, the place seemed good for a large group at lunchtime: they took a booking for 14, which was a great help.

On arrival, it was exactly as we expected: a traditional food-serving pub with a wealth of old-world charm.

Food was very good, extensive range of beers and service - both from behind the bar and serving, was exceptional.

Recommended!

Slow slow service
Jun 2019 • Solo
Whilst my wife was shopping in Oxford I stopped hear for a pint and a look at the menu thinking we could eat hear later. After waiting and waiting at the bar and eventually getting a drink I decided that I wouldn't even bother looking at the menu as it looked like there was only one person doing orders and serving drinks. Disappointing.
