About
Mansfield College, one of the smallest of the University's colleges, is ideally situated in a quiet and leafy part of central Oxford. The College is pleased to be able to offer accommodation in student bedrooms during the vacation periods. The accommodation consists of a choice between traditional student study bedrooms with shared bathroom facilities (singles and twins) or more modern, single en-suite rooms. All accommodation offered is located on the main College site. There are no parking facilities available at the College. All rooms are fully equipped with bed linen, towels and tea and coffee making facilities. College guests can use wifi provided by The Cloud, with the first four hours for free. The College offers a full English and continental breakfast served in the College Crypt. The Crypt café and bar with terrace also offers the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing meal and drinks in relaxed surroundings. We look forward to welcoming you and your guests to Mansfield.

and FREE to walk around, a rare phenomenon with Oxford colleges. Great surprise to see so many sitting on benches enjoying the grounds with the college in the background. Thank you to Mansfield College!

The semesters in Oxford are fairly short, and in the time that the students aren't in the colleges, they often let you rent a room there. You get to enjoy a small taste of English college life, in the beautiful surroundings of an old college. For Mansfield, the rooms with ensuite bathrooms are to be recommended. They are in a modern part of the college. Rooms come with a table, chair, bed and some shelves and watercooker - and that's it. No TV, radio, minibar or safe. Internet is available via cable, and very fast. Beds are single of course, and not well suited for taller travellers.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on Tripadvisor for Mansfield College. I have only just started to update our tripadvisor page, so I am sorry this response is some time after your visit. Your comments endorse the accommodation that we are trying to provide at Mansfield. We have more traditional twin rooms and the single ensuite rooms are in the two more modern buildings. Since your last visit we now have wifi in all college buildings and accommodation. We have recently built new kitchen facilities. The old Victorian kitchens have been transformed into a new café, bar and terrace called The Crypt. We hope that you will take the opportunity to visit us again in the future. With best wishes from the Mansfield Team.

Room a similar level to others I've stayed in in Oxford. Creaky bed, tiny shower, reasonable pressure. Wifi is free for 4 hours and then you have to pay. It's per device, which is naughty and try as I might, I couldn't get it to work on my iPhone. Who knew people still charged for Wifi in 2023? I stayed in the newer (Hands) building, and wasn't able to get any phone reception inside at all.

Maybe I went on a bad day, but the breakfast was by far the worst I'd ever seen anywhere in the UK. No healthy options at all and no vegetarian hot breakfast options beyond baked beans and some greasy fried eggs. If you like Coco Pops and cheap white bread you'll be fine, but for anything else, you're out of luck. First time I've ever gone for breakfast and left without eating anything at all.

If you fancy staying somewhere clean and tidy, well placed for the Colleges and the Bodlean/Sheldonian etc. then staying in Uni' accommodation at Mansfield is worth a go.

You'll get a comfy bed, tea/coffee making tray, loo and a shower but no TV or hotel feel. Towels changed and room cleaned each day (I was there for 2 days).

My room (1, in the garden building I think it was called) was quiet and warm, and it's a very short stroll in the morning into the College Crypt Cafe' for breakfast. Excellent choice of the usual, full English or pastries / cereals etc.

Walk into the High St. was about 10 min's, and say 20/25 min's to the station. No hills to walk up and down.

There is no parking; I took the train.

In 1838 Spring Hill College was set up in Birmingham for non-conformists precluded from an Oxbridge education by a pre-condition of adherence to the Church of England. Only after the University Tests Act 1871 removed this discrimination Spring Hill moved to Oxford in 1886 and was renamed Mansfield College. In 1889 the splendid Victorian buildings which exist today were completed. Originally a men only College it became co-educational in 1913. It became a permanent private hall in 1955 but only achieved full college status in 1955. The college chapel gives the fullest expression to its non-conformity status with a range of stained glass windows and statues dedicated to the likes of Oliver Cromwell and William Penn. Honorary fellows include Jimmy Carter and Shami Chakrabarti.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review for Mansfield College. I am delighted that you have given us four stars, and have included some history of Mansfield. We have recently completed our newest student accommodation building, The Hands Building, which also includes a rather beautiful Lecture Auditorium. I hope that you will come back and see us again. With best wishes The Mansfield Team

We booked rooms at Mansfield College during the students' summer break. Rooms are large and quite basic, but they were affordable and put us close to much of central Oxford. A full English breakfast is included in the room rate. Book through universityrooms.com.

I visited oxford this time and found a room at this small and fantastic college. It is a 200 year old college with a very lovely environment. The food is very good and relatively cheap. I loved the college bar. Just stay here, it is not a 5 star hotel indeed but it makes you feel a student again.

This college is small but the staff and everyone you meet there are really friendly and always willing to help. The quad and building, although not as grandiose as other Oxford colleges are none-the-less beautiful and atmospheric and the grounds aren't super busy like some of the other colleges since the site is about 5 minutes out of the centre. The food is excellent and really varied. Worth a visit.

This college is not designed to accommodate conferences particularly well. On the hottest week in summer it has no air conditioning and windows can't be opened. It's toilet facilities are beyond awful ( men have more opportunity) and the food tried hard but failed. Avoid it.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay at Mansfield. We have only recently started updating our trip advisor page, so I am sorry I have been unable to address your feedback sooner. I am sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay with us. We offer student style accommodation and unfortunately the weather in the UK is rarely hot enough to warrant the regular use of air conditioning, which is why we haven't installed it throughout college. The widows are designed to restrict from opening fully, as with other guest accommodation this is for health and safety. I'm pleased say that the bathrooms have been refurbished since your last visit and are very modern and of a high standard. The catering team do try hard to provide choice and quality, we do value the opinions of our customers and I am sorry that we did not meet your expectations on this occasion. With best wishes from the team at Mansfield.
