Return to the Kassam
Feb 2020
After an absence of several years I finally got around to making a return visit to the Kassam to take in an Oxford United match.

The Kassam is a unique stadium, and being a three-sided ground is usually the first thing said about it. There were financial issues during the building of the stadium and whilst there is regular talk about building the 4th stand, for the moment it remains just that, talk. Nevertheless, the views from the stands are excellent, and there is parking for 2,000 cars. However, it can often take a long time to get out of the car park after a match.

Programme are available from sellers outside the ground, but by the main entrance on a stall selling various items of Oxford United paraphernalia two versions of the programme are available. Oxford also print a programme for away supporters, in the colour of the visiting team. However, apart from the cover and the inside front and back pages, it is the same.

The food and drink inside the ground are reasonably priced and on my latest visit they had Prospect Real Ale as well as Tetleys, Somersby Cider and Carlsberg on tap and small bottles of wine. There were a number of different pies, as well as Burgers and hot dogs. There was also a wide range of soft drinks in addition to tea and coffee.

The match was also enjoyable !

Cup quarter final.

Oxford v Man City last night. Good stadium well organised and efficient and friendly staff. Great view of the pitch and brilliant atmosphere. Relatively comfortable seating and plenty of legroom. £20 for a ticket which considering the opposition good value. Plenty of refreshment outlets and free parking. Only negative was actually getting in and out of the car park which was a bit of a nightmare. This was probably due to the game being a sell out.
Certainly go back again.

Better Than The Old One....

But then the Manor Ground was one of the worst I’ve ever been to and I’ve been to over 100. Three sides makes it a bit weird but a plus point for the amount of leg room in the away stand.

Strange decision by the police to block our entry/exit which added a lot of time for us and walked us past the whole of the Oxford support so crazy really.

No sour grapes here, West Ham were deservedly beaten and hats off to Oxford United but it’s really not a classic football ground.

No atmosphere
Jul 2019 • Friends
Visited last weekend to watch the QPR game . They should have corralled all the crowd together just to help the atmosphere . Many of the drinks outlets appeared closed and the toilets were smelly and filthy.

Match Day Visit
Feb 2019 • Friends
Went to watch a game v Sunderland FC at this three sided stadium. Passionate fans who asked questions about my visit and I answered direct questions as my son was the match referee. Naturally they were intrigued! Great atmosphere and the away side took almost 2000 spectators, which is very good consider the distance. Very good facilities but strange to be 3 sided.

Visited for Sunderland match we had tickets for the hospitality suite. We started off in the bar beside the players entrance and were the first to put money into the fantastic food bank charity but then we were made to feel very uncomfortable a young man came over asking to see our match tickets to keep out away fans ??? We were not trouble makers nor being rowdy even the home fans we were talking to were lost for words. This young mN needs to be taught how to work in the hospitality industry. However after this we were treated brilliantly by the fans and met a director named jimmy what a great man very welcoming and more than happy to talk football. I had to seek him out after the match to say thank you for making me feel wanted. The hospitality suite was fantastic and the rest of the staff were brilliant, 3 stars purely for this young man in the downstairs bar after all from what the home fans were saying they won’t spend money in the kassam so why try to alienate people who were willing to pay for a good service. Rant over I hope they stay up.

3 sided ‘Theatre Of Dreams’.
Feb 2019 • Friends
Went to watch the Oxford v Sunderland today and was quite happy with the seats we had which were in the North stand about 20 rows up from the pitch. It is strange that there isn’t a stand behind one of the goals but it is what it is. Plenty of helpful stewards about and easy access to the stands, toilets etc. Didn’t buy any food or drinks as we had arrived early and used the restaurant and J’s bar adjacent to the stadium. Football was okay and would come again. Paid £24 each for the tickets and don’t really know how that compares with other League One Clubs.

A Functional, Rather Than Attractive, Stadium
Jan 2019 • Friends
The Stadium is some way out of the centre of Oxford, but there are bus routes and good parking areas. There are three main grandstands which are of a functional design, the fourth side is unused, giving a somewhat lopsided effect. Perhaps not the best place to be on a cold January day, but the atmosphere from both the home and away fans was good and the view was fine from our lower row in the away section. Stewarding was efficient and sensibly handled.

Boxing day visit

Never been to this ground before so when I was offered a ticket it was a no Brainer.
Good seats three rows back from dug out.
Wasn't the best result but it was a great afternoon out...
9000 attendance so there was a good bit singing and banter...
