Such a bad experience with rude reception staff..!!
Sep 2021 • Friends
Man at reception area very rude and arrogant. Didn’t want to help at all, even when my brother in law fell in he didn’t come and help straight away. Luckily there were two lads with their family who had just finished punting came to help us. Would never recommend this place and also advised our host not to recommend this place to future guest of theirs….!!!

Unhelpful rude staff
Jul 2021
Such a lovely place. Shame that the staff could not care if we were there or not. We have never been punting and were not asked or shown how to punt. Our experience reflects the issues that the staff obviously have with people who go punting. When we asked for help to get back in the "boy" on duty was not very helpful and then when we told him that he was not helpful he was rude back to us. We struggled to get in, in fact struggled with the whole experience of punting. I would not recommend you go punting if infact you have never been as you will receive no help from the current staff there which is a shame as I think had we been shown for at least 5 minutes what to do and how to do it we would have had a better time. They sit outside the boathouse looking at you ..... not a nice experience at all.

Far from the madding crowd
Jul 2021 • Couples
This is a true gem of a place on the banks of the river (a bit of a giveaway in the name) we were seated on a table for two with a direct view of the river watching the punters idling the time away. The food and service are excellent. Top nosh looking forward to returning.

Pleasant traditional activity

A lovely thing to do if you are in Oxford. You need to book online and pay the £100 deposit - they then refund the deposit minus the cost of your punting. So far we haven't received the refund a week later so you need to take that into account. You are left to get on with it yourself so need to be fairly confident in the water but it is a nice thing to do if you are with someone who knows what they are doing! Limited parking at the venue and limited street parking on a Sunday just outside the entrance.

The rudest staff you will ever encounter
Aug 2020 • Family
Without question the rudest staff I have ever encountered. Could not enjoy our punting after the exceptionally rude reception we reviewed. Wasn't even busy so can't even blame it on stress. Just a horrible little man.

Horrendous

I hardly ever write a negative review but in the interest of public safety, I would have to say we had the worst experience of our lives trying to punt in Cherwell boathouse. 10 mts into punting we got into difficulty and inspire of raising alarm and being in full visibility of management NO one cane to rescue us. One of our party fell into water avd the whole boat was at risk of capsizing. We were rescued by two canoers. When we made it to safety m, they accused us of having 7 in the boat without taking into account the lady who was rescuing us. I thought that was so insensitive.
I would suggest thinking twice thrice - a 100 times before going there.
Being very generous giving 1 - it’s nil point

Punting on the river - a must do!
Sep 2020
Such a beautiful setting to depart from on your punts with lovely scenery and pub gardens to stop off at. The staff who deal with the punts are very relaxed which has a lovely feel about it. Punting is hard - so a good idea to watch the video of how to do it on their website - then we got the hang of it very quickly. Staff were really clear about the price that would be charged to our card when we returned which was great! - a real pleasure - we will be back!

Rude Staff spoil the Punting
Aug 2020 • Couples
We were “greeted” by Dave! He could not have been less welcoming or more in friendly to any of the customers. In fact, he was downright rude and unhelpful. No advice or suggestions; no help mooring or departing...just get in/out and get on with it. We mentioned this to the “Manager” (or Owner), who was standing outside the Restaurant; to say that he wasn’t bothered is an understatement. Clearly, not interested in their customers; complacent and unwelcoming.....obviously, it’s too easy to make money without worrying about the customers wanting to return. Poor experience!

Very hard work for little enjoyable (if you are the punter) but great food and drinks
Aug 2020
Punted with another couple and the experience was OK due to the hottest day in Oxford so the heat make it hot and sticky throughout the whole journey.

While the Boat operators kept to a "do it yourself" approach, it would nice if he did a 2-3 min demo how to do steering or general tips etc.

We ordered food and drinks for 2 couples to the experience along the river but in hindsight, better to eat before going as ate the food individually in a line of the boat as well as limited bankside sitting areas. Overall the food (restaurant style) and drinks was amazing.

My own issue was my technique, you need time to get it right and a clean run up and down the river. While I could control my boat direction, I did spend more time avoiding other boats or unavoidable crashes. Nice way to meet strangers when a boat crashes into you.
