- Mark PHampshire, United Kingdom1,776 contributionsHidden gem close to centre of OxfordVisited to take part in parkrun. Lovely park with a river. Plenty of places for a picnic. Toilets in a building near cricket pavilion. Hard to park nearby though. Oxford is not a car friendly city. Cost me £5.70 to park for 1 hour.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 31, 2024
- BluebellplasnewyddCardiff, United Kingdom2,049 contributionsPeaceful walkThis park is behind the laboratories on South Parks Road and thus a short walk from the city centre. There is an expanse of grass with the river Cherwell flowing through. The borders are particularly well planted and kept with loads of flowers in the spring. Beware of bicycles speeding on the cycle tracks and also mosquitos near the river.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 13, 2024
- Need_more_free_timeSevenoaks, United Kingdom379 contributionsCoffee and quidditch!Peaceful park for a sunshine spring stroll. Green space just a short walk from the city centre. Great little cafe service very good coffee. And where else would you see ‘Quidditch’ being played! So eccentrically British and so Oxford!!Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 14, 2024
- Jon BeeBuckingham, United Kingdom86 contributionsGood Walks & Interesting PlantsIf I ever have the time whilst in the city, I always try to visit this large park with its numerous paths and interesting trees and plants. Entering from Parks Road, there are several good trails to follow. One takes in the 'Thorn Walk', which includes more than thirty varieties of Hawthorn - some very different from those you might see in hedges! Also down that way is an interesting herbaceous border with a grand selection of familiar and not-so-familiar perennials. The display was going over when I visited, but there was still a good show of Japanese Anemones to study. The scope for a good walk is always possible here, with one making a complete circuit of the park, with others crossing the large areas of grass. Toilets on site is a real bonus, as the park is some way from the city centre. If you want peace and quiet, this is a nice place to find it. I shall return!Visited August 2024Traveled soloWritten August 20, 2024

This park is just north of Central Oxford on the approach to Summertown. It is a nice open space perfect for a walk any time of year. To be honest have been coming here for years though on this occasion it was a lovely sunny afternoon in early Autumn. There is a buzz around Oxford this time of year particularly with the new year commencing at the University and this park is a great place for an autumn walk especially if you enjoy the colours changing in the trees. The park itself is very well maintained and is very clean. There are toilets onsite which is useful and as you go deeper into the park there is a small pond and the River Cherwell also runs alongside the park which makes it a lovely place to have a picnic or just enjoy a cup of tea!

This free, clean, spacious, lovely, park exceeded my expectations. I don’t know how the experience would be in the summer, possibly too crowded, but during the week in the fall when I visited it was great seeing folks walking their dogs, young people playing Quidditch, etc.
A wonderful, peaceful (at least the time of year I went), place that has bathrooms and even a mobile cafe at the entrance. If you’re in need of a green respite, go here.

Lovely riverside and University side walks, great views.
Ideal for walking off a big lunch or just enjoying the pace and quiet of the riverside and parks. Also a giigle to watch the tourist trying out the Punts etc.

Enjoy a peaceful walk in nature, away from the hustle and bustle. Spacious, also with many sports fields to walk around. And with many benches in memory of various famous and less famous people

Having a walk with my friends in this glorious city. And in a moment the weather changes dramatically and pour in rain. We couldn't hide anywhere.

A few parks are scattered in and around Oxford the ones down by the river are the nicest like Merton field, well worth a wander and pick your own favourite.

So relaxing and peaceful despite the number of people enjoying the beautiful paths and scenery. Huge, marvellous trees, birds, ducks, flowers, all in the middle of the busy oxford city centre. A must see/walk/run experience!

I used to love Parsons pleasure until they closed it. Down by the river cherwell a bathing area for men only where we took off our clothes & sunbathed naked. But it got a bad name cause everyone took all were gay. But no it was refreshing.

The University parks are beautifully maintained and well laid out. Unfortunately, because of the current pandemic, wasn’t easy to get in and around the parks while my wife and I were there, nevertheless, we were able to admire from afar.

In a city steeped in historical buildings, it can be easy to forget how much of nature is equally as old and majestic. The University Park provides a refreshing walk in the shade of trees that kept us cool even on one of the summer's hottest days. There is a rocky dirt path winding through the park. Take up to an hour enjoying the greenery, the flowers, the river and the bridges. Lovely!

What are the chances for boating? Do additional charges apply? If yes, how much it is?
