What a beautiful City to walk around for visitors, it isn't huge which makes for a better more relaxing walk around. Please pick your visit times carefully taking in to account the academic year, I was unfortunate enough to visit on the final week for all the colleges nearly all were closed to visitors as students were leaving their residences on the Saturday and Sunday. This did not deter my resolve to see as much as I could, I had travelled in by bus from the Kassam Holiday Inn Express which was a journey of 40 minutes at a cost of £4 return (within 24 hrs). The buses were quite frequent on Saturday but there is a Sunday service of one bus an hour - beware!!!
I walked all around on the Saturday using the bus service guide (free) and stopped frequently for refreshment, of which are plenty of cafes etc.
I got the open top bus on the Sunday as I was unable to see inside the colleges on the Saturday, on the open top bus one can see over the walls into the grounds of the colleges and there is a a very good verbal guide on the bus - very reasonable at £17 for the hop on - hop off service.

Our college students LOVED the walking tour with David. He effortlessly wove together Oxford culture, history, and admissions with locations significant to the life and writings of C.S. Lewis (the topic of our studies). It is rare to find such a great combination of charisma and knowledge in this kind of specialized tour. We cannot wait to tour with him again next year!

We spent a wonderful 3 hours with David at Oxford City Walks. We had many, many questions about University life, admissions and history and David managed to answer them all. He even contacted me a day or 2 later after researching the answer to one of my questions. David is a scholar and a very well read and interesting man. He made history come alive for us. We could have easily spent mant more hours with him. He was very easy to work with when booking the tour.

Would happily recommend Oxford City Walks to anyone visiting Oxford and wants more than a Harry Potter experience.

We had a pre-booked tour and were on site 10 minutes before the start. No one comes and no information at all. We call the number on the booking confirmation and when they answer they just say they are sorry but no one had time to take the tour. It would have been easy to notify us of this so we could have taken another tour instead. Really bad behaviour!

Let customers know in advance if pre booked tour is cancelled.
We only found out whilst on the park and ride bus because we phoned advertised mobile number to say we were running 2 minutes late. We were informed at that point the tour was cancelled with no apology and a very unprofessional telephone conversation!!!!!

My wife & I are big fans of "Inspector Lewis" on PBS's Masterpiece Mystery series, and we wanted to visit Oxford to see where the show is filmed. But we were going to pass because we knew so little about it. Then, in a way that occasionally happens on vacations, we struck unexpected gold when we discovered David Gunnell of Oxford City Walk (oxfordcitywalk.com) who gave us an amazing walking tour around the colleges. David has a story about virtually every building around the colleges. He entertained us with history of conflicts between the students and the city residents and with his amazing memory for relevant poetry and quotations. We highly recommend David and this walking tour of Oxford.

Our tour of Oxford was planned just after we arrived from Canada - so we were all somewhat jet lagged. Despite this David managed to keep us interested and engaged. Our group of six was pretty diverse in age and interests and David was able to keep everyone involved in conversation. He really tailored to tour to our interests and shared his incredible knowledge and love of the city. He managed to balance history, culture and fun facts to keep us all going. We loved it and would definitely go again.

I asked for some Solo options and unfortunately we couldn't figure out something for me and they gave me lot's of information to enjoy my trip to Oxford. It was very detailed, full of advice and I was not expecting that so it worth a 5 stars review. Very professional team

It s one of the most beautiful cities In England more beautiful then London itself. Just take a walk inside the city visit the trinity college, the library is a must, get lost in the streets. U don't need public transport inside and not even to reach the center it s 10 minutes walk so do not waste your money. Must do it s like 1.30 h from London

My husband and I did a private walking tour with David a few weeks ago. Firstly, David went out of his way to help me organize the day so we would see the most possible. He answered numerous emails and researched times of Oxford only tours at the library. He must have spent in excess of 3 hours helping us prepare for our 3 hour tour because I was quite indecisive. He never expressed a hint of impatience.

He met us before the appointed time, took us to a great pub, and delivered us to our library tour at the end of the day.

He was personable and VERY knowledgeable. He provided details off the cuff that showed that he is a person who does not just know the canned stuff any guide can give you but is well read and intellectual. Like reminding us that one of our PM's John Turner had been a Rhodes Scholar and then being able to discuss his political career with us. Or realizing we were Jewish, telling us the history of the first Jewish student at Oxford.
Very impressive.

Highly recommend.
