A pie and a pint

Although this is descrobed as a dog friendly pub i was disappointedbthe staff allowed dogs on the seating, and at one point a dog was on a table wherebyou eat off and staff didnt bat an eyelid, infact fed treats to tge dog. Not the time or the place. I loke dogs and am a dog person, but that is just too much.

Good Food in a Lovely Old Pub
Oct 2021
We came to the Kings Arms for lunch as the food was well priced and there were some interesting choices on the menu.

I had the hot dog which was fine and my son had the pie which he really enjoyed. The star of the show was my wife's burger which she thought was delicious. It did look lovely and left me wishing I had gone for that as well!!

The building is big with lots of different rooms. It was certainly impressive and was very busy when we visited.

The only thing that let it down for me was the service. It was very brusque, I don't want my server to be my new best mate, but I do appreciate a smile and a bit of conversation. To be fair, this was the person who took my food order, the younger guy behind the bar was much friendlier.

All in all, a good lunch at reasonable prices in an excellent location

Speechless
Aug 2021 • Friends
So *not* a friendly greeting when this usually humming pub was virtually empty. A large glass of Shiraz - not asked for a specific brand, so assumed 'house' - £9.50. Seriously? You want us back? We're locals, so plainly not. A glass of wine and a vodka and tonic over £20. Ludicrous. And no food till 4pm, that was a blessing, three of us went elsewhere.

0-10 staff lazy and extremely impolite
Jul 2021 • Friends
Place is pretty is the only plus, bar man couldn’t be more rude, made it feel like he was doing you a favour rushing you to order a beer and started walking off before you finished ordering, rolling his eyes, a strange tall grey haired angry man who clearly doesn’t want to be in a customer facing business. Worst customer service I’ve had in oxford! I suggest they get the staff some lessons in manners and common courtesy. Or better yet replace them. Tables left I cleaned between customers empty glasses sitting on table for over an hour! Lazy horrible place, they want you to order through the app but the is 1 bar of signal over 4 phones, on 4 different networks, place smells like old fish, and btw I’ve been in oxford for 27 years! Wifi also incredibly slow. & drinks are over priced which you don’t mind if the place is nice and the staff are friendly! This place seems to want to coast on its long history so they don’t need to show polite customer service! The rumours I’ve heard are exactly true! Group of 6 and none will return!!!

Great trip to the Kings Arms Oxford
Jun 2021 • Couples
My girlfriend and I had a fantastic night at the Kings Arms. The pub was in a great location and the service was very efficient. A very friendly pub and everyone inside was very friendly and pleasant.

Ally was brilliant he really made our night! Every pub was fully booked due to the football but Ally moved people around to accommodate us which really made a difference to our trip.

I would 100% recommended going to this pub if you’re in the area.

Covid aggressive
Jun 2021 • Friends
Outside area full, no-one on door so had the temerity to open the food so that my disabled friend could support himself.

Shouted at by a lout behind the bar before being brusquely shoved aside by a very rude man who thought I was blocking his computer. Obviously, we left immediately.

They have a track record of aggressive bar staff who obviously hate their jobs.

Christmas Eve CANCELLED
Dec 2020 • Couples
Where to begin! I had reserved a table for two on Christmas Eve. We then took a £35 taxi ride, and the same back, only to find it was closed! This is despite being advertised as open on Facebook AND receiving confirmation email. (See Photo)

If we had known it was closed we would not have taken such a long and very costly taxi ride.

We were left in a cold and empty Oxford on Christmas Eve, which could have been spent in the warmth and comfort of our hotel. I feel giving one star is generous, but nonetheless necessary if it means bringing to attention the misleading booking policy of this establishment!

Good lunch - even with the Covid-19 rules
Sep 2020 • Family
This historic pub, attached to Wadham College, is right in the heart of the Academic hub of Oxford. The setting is magnificent.

Good pub food - Sunday lunches, a mix of other options too. Normally it’s packed - with the current restrictions, much more spaced out with the Young’s App running everything. That makes it entirely efficient and meets the government rules.

Good but needs improvements.

We booked online for an evening meal. It was one of the hottest days of the year and hoped to sit outside. This wasn't to be and the staff seated us inside. This was strange as we were the only people in there. We weren't sure who the staff were as there was no uniform and we thought they were customers to begin with.

The food was nice and came quickly. Drinks were ordered and paid for as they arrive. Food was paid for at the end of the meal.

Other people did eventually get seated inside but it was silent and the atmosphere was dead. Such a shame as this was our only meal in Oxford.

The staff were pleasant but it felt like it was run by typical students. Although the meal was ok, we wouldn't return.

Had a pint here this past weekend. Nice pint. Difficult to catch the attention to order a second so I left. Will be back at some point.
