Depressing beyond pills

The adjective "lugubrious" applies here. It's reminiscent of a lunatic asylum, off the M25 - say in Barnet. Not a proper college, it would be better converted into a pumping station or an old folks' home.

Famous old boys include: Fred and Rose West; "Sir" Ed Davey and Francis Begbie.

Sick joke

An old folks' home masquerading as an Oxford college in order to attract money from the gullible. It has as much history as my big toe. Even the Burne-Jones window in the Library is fake.

When studying abroad for the first time, I knew my family ancestors came from here. This was the best decision to come and study here!

Need new mattresses

I don't expect first class accommodation in a college dorm, but at 65 GPS each for a twin room, en suite, I do expect a good (not great) mattress, not one with springs popping up around you. The breakfast, however, was excellent, and it is hard to beat the ambiance.

A must-see hidden gem
Aug 2014 • Friends
If you like the work of Burne-Jones, do visit the chapel to Harris Manchester, where you'll find the most exquisite stained glass windows. What is unique about them is that they are totally coherent by theme, design, colour, placing, having been done 'all of a piece'. Many churches with stained glass have pieces from different periods of time, sort of 'collected up'. The windows are absolutely breath-taking in the luminosity of their colour, the grace of their lines, and the delicacy of feeling they express. There are windows on all four sides of the building, bringing a unique sense of being surrounded by light, and by the angelic presences.

Its Unitarian background adds to the uniqueness of this place of worship, and yes, as mentioned by other reviewers, the chapel is not 'just open' at all times. A visit needs to be arranged, so call the college and find out how to do that. Well worth it.

Chapel and grounds

Your main reason for visiting here would probably be the chapel. The stained glass should delight anyone! However, if you are interested or even committed to Unitarianism this would be almost an essential visit if you are in Oxford.

The chapel is not always 'open' to visitors - but you can check out how to visit with ther porters' desk.

I personally really like the college, its gardens (which are modest) and the chapel. If you are interested in the Pre-Raphaelites that might be another reason to visit the chapel..

Services are on Sundays 1100 start normally.

An internet search will tell you more about the Chapel Society and/or Manchester college - esp advisable if you intend to attend a service.

A real hidden treasure right in the centre of Oxford. The stained glass windows in the chapel are well worth a look.
