We booked the free 2 hour tour. Our guide was Dave and he was excellent! Knowledgeable, funny, informative and gave the right balance of detail around historical facts, past students, gossip and general notes about the City and colleges. There were 10 of us on the tour which was a good number. I highly recommend this tour and don’t forget to bring cash (definitely £ notes in my opinion) to say thank you to the guide as it is worth every penny!

We had a great 2 hours with Trevor on the Free Oxford Walking Tour. He was really knowledgeable, kept everyone (including our teens) entertained with great anecdotes and snippets of info about the colleges, the city itself, famous people and even pointed out where TV shows were filmed. It was a great way for 1st time visitors to get our bearings around Oxford
It was made clear at the time of booking and at the start of the tour that contributions were voluntary so I was extremely disappointed that some people stayed for the entire tour (2hours 15 mins) so obviously enjoyed it but wandered off as soon as payment was mentioned! I don't consider this any reflection on either Trevor or the Tour - its just a shame about the attitude of some people.
I would definitely recommend footprints and would use the service if I went to another city where they are running something similar. Great job Trevor and Footprints.

The two hours literally flew by, very interesting and entertaining at the same time. You could tell our guide, Trevor, was truly passionate and knowledgeable about Oxford history. All of it alternated with fun facts and anecdotes from student life in the city which catches your attention from minute one! 100% recommended.

I did the free Footprints two hour walking tour of Oxford today - a really excellent experience. Fred was a very enthusiastic guide and put his all into telling us about the city's history, famous alumni and quirky traditions. I was captivated from start to finish and not bored for a second. The tour covered the main sights in the centre including the Radcliffe Camera, the Bodleian Library, St Mary's Church, the 'Bridge of Sighs', Christchurch College, etc. The talk covered a real mix of subjects - from Tudor history and Civil War connections, to the inter-college rivalries, the Oxford admissions process and the infamous Bullingdon club. Fred also shared some fascinating local gems along the route, such as The Bear pub with its collection of ties on the wall. I learnt so much and really don't see how the tour could have been improved. We were not pushed to give tips like some free tour operators do. Really excellent experience.

Mark was a fantastic guide, I brought my teenage nephew to get a feel for the town and the University ahead of his application in light of there being no open days this year. Mark was very helpful in answering our questions and giving us some insight into the life of students at Oxford. Mark has exceptional knowledge of the history of the university and the town and many amusing anecdotes about the students antics!
I would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to get a good feel for Oxford and valuable insight on student life.

A must do in Oxford! Our guide Richard was very knowledgeable and so clearly spoken, if you get him as your tour guide it’s a bonus. If you want to see some of the highlights of this historical educational institution I can’t recommend this enough. A bonus for us was to see Shakespeare’s first folio of some his plays in the new Bodleian library which was on display in the main reception area, normally tucked away in the main library which isn’t part of the tour.

Really enjoyed this 1 hour 30 minute walking tour. Our guide, Trevor brought the city alive with his enthusiasm, great storytelling and genuine love for the city where he studies. I left wishing I could study here.

My friend and I did the walking tour with Meghan and it was absolutely great. The tour guide is full of just the right amount of energy, is super informative on the city, the university, history and literary inspirations like Harry Potter, Tolkien, and CS Lewis. The cites visited were also breathtakingly beautiful.

It really was a lovely tour — I would recommend it to anyone visiting.

Thanks again Meghan!

I booked a slot on the free tour offered by Footprints Tours, where you are encouraged to tip at the end, and trust me, I needed no encouragement! My group was shown round this beautiful city by Trevor, whose passion for Oxford was infectious and whose knowledge of the city is I'm sure second to none. I'm not much of a history buff, but I was glued to every story. Definitely something I will do again with other friends and family.
