Edward Taylor gave us a top notch tour of Tolkien and Lewis' Oxford stomping grounds. He fitted the content of the hour-and-a-half walk well to suit our family of 13 which included several young children (3, 7, 10, 11) and teenagers. Taylor is very knowledgeable, a good story teller, and was great with the children. We highly recommend this tour (and Taylor in particular) to any lovers of Lewis and Tolkien visiting Oxford.

Today we had the pleasure of Edward as a guide to our Tolkien tour of Oxford . We met outside the Blackwells book shop .. my wife and I were delighted to have been the only participants on the lunchtime tour . Edward was an extremely nice chap , very knowledgeable about the Various colleges and buildings including much of their history . Edward was also able to give us a good insight into life as an Oxford Don through Tolkiens eyes and also those of the famous ‘Inklings’. CS Lewis also featured highly and it was wonderful to have grasped little nuggets of his life and in particular see things like the hotel he courted his future wife not to mention seeing the pubs that he and his friends frequented . Edward gave us lots of advice regarding other things to see and gave us more than our allotted time with him .At £18 a piece it was definitely value for money and we would definitely use this company again . If you are considering a Tolkien tour ..ask for Edward you won’t regret it.

Melanie is very nice and lovely. She told us lots about Morse, Lewis and Endeavor. As I brought a boy with me, she also added some Harry Potter and Alice in Wonder in. That was really interested my son. And she told us it was her first tour after lockdown. It is a pity. But now they do small groups , fece coverings and also well social distance. So I think it is safe. By the way, Melanie's English is queit clear and easy understood. English is not our mother tongue, but even my 11-year-old boy can understand what she said. We enjoy the tour and that is a gold memory!

We booked onto the 1.5 hour tour with Simon who was friendly, funny and extremely knowledgeable.
There were only 6 of us on the tour so we could ask any questions we had.
He took us around some of the city, along the city wall and to the various colleges. Although due to covid we couldn't go in the colleges, it didn't matter as Simon stood outside and explained about them.
Would definately recommend this tour and I can't wait to come back for the ghost tour another evening!

I did the ghost / mysteries of oxford walking tour with Simon which started at 6:30pm on a weekday. It was a last minute decision to join and I’m quite happy that I did. Simon did an excellent job of recounting historical tales from Oxford’s storied past. Just the right amount of embellishment of the ghost stories, as well as connecting the stories to the past and present physical architecture of the city and literature about oxford (mostly fiction though it was hard to separate history from fiction at times !) We also got a glimpse of oxford university’s oldest structures and even connecting those to many of the stories brought the place to life (bodleian library and the original oxford university belltower ). All in all, it was well worth my time and made my short stay in oxford more memorable.

We participated in a night "ghost story tour" with Magnus as our guide. The tour was comprehensive and the stories were well presented as Magnus is not only knowledgeable but also the consummate actor. We were mostly adults aged >40 and the walk was not too challenging. My 18-year-old who joined us also enjoyed every moment.

Tonight we had a ghost tour with Simon. His knowledge and passion was exceptional. We learnt so much about Oxford and it’s history as-well as hearing spooky tales along the way too. How Simon relayed some of the stories I felt like I was transported back in time.
Highly recommended!

The tour was ok but could have been a lot better. Our guide was extremely knowledgable however I found him to be quite unprofessional. When we arrived he was smoking in front of the group (something I find quite rude and especially difficult for my partner who is currently trying to quit) and he didn’t introduce himself so we didn’t know his name. Halfway through the tour he decided to stop and pick himself up some lunch and a coffee and left us all waiting outside in the cold for him. He was also eating as we were going along. Not what I’d really expect when you pay £15 each. Like I say, I cannot fault his knowledge of the town but he had no charisma and didn’t really make it very interesting or exciting. He also wasn’t wearing a uniform so it felt like a random bloke had just rocked up to do our tour. Overpriced for the service we received. Did learn a few interesting facts though.

We did the evening ghost tour. We enjoyed it but there were a few niggles.
1. Did it actually start at 6.30 or earlier ? Ticket said 6.30, we arrived at 6.25 but tour seemed to be already in full flow.
2. For a ghost tour, it was very light on ghosts and ghost stories. It was more of a literature tour. Interesting but not really what was advertised.
3. The tour only lasted 1 hr 15 minutes - it was a bit short for the cost of the tour.
4. A real plus was it did take us to places we hadn't seen on our earlier walking tour so we did enjoy that.
Would we do again - probably not but maybe would be a different vibe on a dark night rather than in the middle of summer.

Had an excellent, fascinating and highly entertaining ghost tour with Simon in early February 2023. Learnt an incredible amount of things about Oxford's gruesome past, and Simon is a brilliant guide who is clearly so knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter. Some of the stories aren't for the faint hearted, but if you're looking for a spooky delve into the past then you will learn a lot about this incredible city's history.

Hi, I'm afraid I can't answer re distance from the station as we didn't travel by train. The meeting point was at the gates of one of the colleges, I'm 99% sure it was Trinity, so I'm sure someone would point you in the right direction.
Regards
Jill
