Pretty location, nice friendly lock keeper
Jan 2020 • Couples
It was very cold and very muddy but it was still a pretty place to visit and we shall be back in the summer. It was very peaceful and there’s lots of room for kids to run around. On our visit though the water was flowing very very fast and was at a very high level.

Beautiful 'Knights Templars'Mill Pond Location at Any Time of Year
Jan 2020
Always feel very peaceful here due to the placid beautiful Knights Templar Built Mill pool.
Youve never to long to wait to cross on foot and seats are provided if necessary
This is avery important Thames crossing the only one for miles around just outside Oxford.
Recently one causeway side was heavily flooded though and the water nearly cut off the causeway to Radley & Kennington.
The Lock is excellently staffed by the River Authority and a charming Dog.
the dogs in the barges get very excited as the water level rises and often bark-perhaps primeeaval memories of Noahs Flood?!
There is a pub here though Ive never eaten there.
The adjoining lane leads to Littlemore and ones is soon in Oxford
A very peaceful safe and classy place overall.
Sandford Church is delightful often open and historic.
Theres room to take over the river by foot a bicycle or pram
on the gate walkway but not much wide or heavy and of course no cars
The penthouse apartments with panoramic windows over looking the
mystical Kinghts Templar Mill Pond surely have one of the most beautiful views going though the proximity to the food garden and water may encourage water rats.
Who knows?
All in all a very important little known transport link in this part of Oxfordshire.
Buses about 1 per hour can be caught in either nearby Kennington(Main Abingdon to Oxford route 35 not advised in rush hour and rather bumpy )) or Sandford Village Bus Stop (possibly much less frequent)

Aug 2019
Nice river bank if you want a picknic also a pub if you want a drink. Plenty of seats if you want to sit and watch he boats or feed the ducks. You can walk into Kennington from here or up into Sandford village

A fairly deep lock can make things interesting at times for boaters.
Jul 2019 • Family
It’s always interesting to watch the various levels of expertise as narrow boats and cabin cruisers pass through Sandford Lock. The lock keeper does a fine job of maintaining the Flores and gardens around this very pretty lock. Well worth a detour down to the River Thames.

Good walk from city centre!
Jul 2019 • Couples
We walked from city centre to Ifley locks, then Sandford locks. Lovely! All along the canal. Great for wild flowers at this time of year.

Lots going on
Jun 2019 • Friends
Very picturesque lock with well kept gardens, lots of boats going through including university rowing boats as it was getting near Henley Regatta and I guess they were out practising. There is a pub, the Kings Arms, which has a great location, shame about the food. There are some walks around as well.

We love it here
May 2019 • Family
Aidan, the lock keeper is an absolute darling, as are the volunteers helping out at the lock. Always happy to chat and so helpful. Opposite is the Kings Arms pub, which has a beautiful location by the river, but has awful food (be warned!).
A walk along the river is well worth it (only about 60 min walk into City Centre of Oxford, and only ca 30 min walk to Radley).

Another nice feature on the river Thames
Jan 2019 • Business
This os one of a total of 45 locks on the river Thames. It is not the prettiest but every lock has a nice feeling and is well worth visiting. There is a nice pub on one side and the old Lock House on the other. Walking along the river here requires good footwear, especially in wet weather as the towpath or footpath in this area are quite muddy.
