Independent distillery doing things a little differently
Really interesting as different to most distilleries, particularly how they are farming, and the different drinks they are making. I was the only person on the tour which I kind of liked but sure it would be good even with a group. My guide Carmen was really knowledgeable about all the aspects of the distillery and all the farming behind it which really makes this distillery stand out

Fascinating explanation of distilling with local rye and generous tasting
We were given a distillery tour for two as a gift. As it happened (it was a wet January day) we were the only people on the tour, housed in an old barn, so had personal attention! The guide explained the concept behind the enterprise, which is based on research into crop history by examining the underlying straw on timbered roofs. The base layer will often have been there since pre-Agricultural Revolution times and therefore give an indication of the type of grain that was grown then. A field has been planted with rye of this type and it is allowed to grow naturally. The product is then distilled in one of the specially-built stills here and can subsequently be processed in different ways to yield gin, whisky or vodka. The ethos is very much working with nature in a traditional way and the explanation was most interesting. We were given generous tasters of several of the different gins produced by the distillery, which acquire their different tastes according to which botanicals are added (from the university's Botanical Gardens). The distillery is still experimenting with the whisky to find the most acceptable product. Important tip; don't drive here! The amount of gin we were given (or could have consumed had we been greedy) was greater than the amount of wine you get on most wine tastings! Very good value, then.

Highly recommended! Our tour guide was a great host, v funny and superb storyteller (my memory is somewhat hazy for whatever reason but I believe his name was Mike). We learnt a lot about their processes as well as history from the area.

    Whiskey Tour
Really enjoyed our whiskey tour. Carmen really knew her stuff and was very enthusiastic. The history of the distillery was very interesting and very different to the more commercial tours in the bigger distilleries. And the whiskey tasted great too!

Lovely set up, nice seating area outside , very relaxed.
After a great chat with a member of staff in the shop about the distilling process & a sample of the Oxford Rye (not whisky) we took a seat outside & ordered an Ashmolean & diet tonic via the website ordering facility. When it arrived we asked the waitress what the ratio of gin to tonic was, she didn't know but told us the gin was 'a large measure'. When we tasted it, you really couldn't tell there was any gin in there, it was swamped with tonic. The waitress was very good about it & offered to bring us a separate shot of gin & that did improve it (it also meant we got to taste the gin neat, which is something we like to do with a new gin). We asked if, for our next drink, she could either bring the tonic separately or mix it 2-1 (you can always add more tonic if needs be!) but when the 2nd round arrived, this time the Oxford Rye Dry Gin, it was delivered by the same waitress & we asked, "is that 2-1 this time?", "Oh, I don't know, I didn't make it". Yet again, awash with tonic!
The thing is, there was so much choice on the website order page, ice/no ice, garnish/no garnish, all sorts of mixers, but it really could have done with a 'go easy on the tonic' option... or just bring it out separately!
We intended to buy a bottle or two from the shop, but on reflection decided that maybe the gins just weren't great for G&Ts, so didn't bother.
The Oxford Rye however, is a beautiful drink, even if it is 'not quite whisky'!

Dear Steven and Kay, we will take this valuable feedback and discuss it with the bar team. We are still learning with the app, to make sure customers get the G and T they want. Thanks also for your comment on the Rye, we're really proud of it.

Ordered an Oxford Rye on next day delivery. The courier let Oxford Artisan down and delivery was delayed but Oxford Artisan refunded the whole delivery cost even though it wasnt their fault. Lovely people!

We booked in advance and went at 4pm on Sunday. The guide was excellent and the history (even though they have not been around long) was fascinating. It’s a 20 minute walk from the city centre and mostly uphill but well worth it. Highly recommended.

Great, passionate tour from Steven. Did the £40 Whisky Tour at 6pm on Friday with 2 friends. Would recommend for anyone interested in how drinks are made or just for general interest.

Got the history of whisky and the production at the distillery, then had a tour of the distillery and the lab, plus whisky tasting and asking any questions you want.

What an excellent tour and tasting - and I was the designated driver and still enjoyed the experience. Our host was informative and interesting (and funny) and the whole experience was a blast. The gin I took home and tasted is excellent - my family really enjoyed the trip..I imagine a few parties start here!!

My friend and I did the Saturday morning tour for our birthdays. Leslie was our tour guide and was very funny as well as being extremely knowledgeable about the different products that are made. We visited the lab and the place where it’s all made and was very interesting. We got to try all the gin and vodka so that was a bonus too! Would definitely book again for a girls day out. It’s a hidden gem tucked away that I wouldn’t have known was there had we not done the tour.

Husband booked this tour as part of my BIG birthday celebrations as I love Gin. We had a fabulous time. Started with a tasting of Vodka, which even though I’m not a Vodka drinker was excellent then on to the invention room, followed by the distillery. Met the Master Distiller & then back for more tasting. They have 3 core Gins, which are all fabulous but the Toad one is in my opinion the best, I got a bottle for home. A brilliant tour & distillery run by knowledge & enthusiastic people. Absolutely worth a visit!

Visited for a drink prior to going out for a meal. The service was poor there was none of their own gin available to drink or purchase. Waited 15 minutes after ordering for the drinks to be brought gave up and collected them ourselves. It is such a shame as it is a lovely setting.
