A cinema that doesn’t have salty popcorn….. really?
Really disappointed, a 0 on snacks variety. Terrible

Odeon cinema Magdalen st Oxford

Screen 2 freezing cold and dismal. Totally unpleasant experience. Will not be visiting again as plenty more warm comfortable cinemas to choose from.

All round as good as can be expected
Sep 2019
I'll admit the food here is like entering a microcosm of hyper inflation but given where they are and the size of the building its not surprising. The staff are friendly and helpful though not all have mastered how to make corporate jargon sound human and the result, though amusing, is a little disconcerting. Not that I blame them, I know they have to say it. I can't fault the screen though and we had people checking in on a regular basis to make sure things were going okay so that was reassuring. Overall, its well run, clean and tidy. A good place to go watch a film.

Pretty Good

I have visited the Odeon George Street twice so far this month and I much prefer it to my local Odeon (Banbury). It has a much better selection of films and the seating is laid out better than the Banbury branch. Staff are friendly and helpful, the cinema is clean and tidy. My only criticism would be that the films are too loud, we went to see The Joker a few weeks ago and it was just deafening- to the point where I had to cover my ears in some scenes just to be able to hear any sound definition, and with La Mann’s 66 yesterday the volume had been reduced since the last film we saw which was better but still it’s a bit loud, the racing scenes especially at some points were uncomfortably loud. Other than that I had a great experience

The Joker
Oct 2019
This review relates to the George St Branch of The Odeon as pictured not the other Magdalen Street branch.
Saw The Joker first showing.
Reasonable Service Polite Reception.
Not very busy as usual.
The adverts were set way too loud I mean reverberatingly loud.
The main feature also a bit loud due to loud quadrophonic sound.
I had to watch it all with ear buds in!
Younger member of the audience disregarding the no lit up phones rule
fiddling with them as they got bored despite an over 15 Age ID enforced.
Ones sitting next to me inappropriately sniggering at one of the murders was disturbing.
The actual film was rather dreary and depressing about a class envy madman who goes round shooting people out of revenge.
Nothing like The 1960s Joker.
I found the justification for this to be oppressive-poor background etc.
After the fantastic Dumbo this a bit of a let down.
Otherwise pretty par for the course though I thought all this screen violence stuff had vanished in the 1970s.
Would be more picky now about seeing over hyped Odeon blockbusters

The Fast and the Furious: Hobbs & Poor!
Aug 2019 • Couples
Myself and my partner decided to opt for the 17:40 showing of Hobbs & Shaw at the Magdalen Street venue as a stop off as part of a weekend trip to Oxford, perfect timing for a film and a bit of dinner afterwards in the city.

The cinema seemed cosy having seen the limited seat selection on the website and seeing through the guarded door leading upstairs thought I might be in for an intimate and boutique screening having seen the decor - this is where it went wrong..(an intimate screening of Hobbs & Shaw - I know right!).

Entering Screen 2 we were met with what I believe was rubbish from the last screening strewn about the floor and seats, we had to be very strategic with where we sat. The seats were outdated, low for the tiny, poor quality screen and the room itself was hot and felt like a sweat box; these days we are used to a better cinema experience so this was like a step back in time of almost 20 years with the exception that it was still at today's prices.

Overall this was a terrible experience and not what I would expect from a cinema with the Odeon name attached to it; although I am a day visitor to Oxford there appear to be far better options for your money such as The Curzon - unfortunately their showing of Hobbs & Shaw wasn't until later in the evening.

1 out of 5 as the film wasn't bad and Ryan Reynolds had his best role to date since Detective Pikachu.

Such helpful staff
Jul 2019 • Couples
I visited the Magdalen Street cinema with my husband and was immediately greeted in such a friendly manner by Daisy who was serving the tickets. We had a problem with a loyalty card and Daisy and William the manager went out of their way to understand and sort out. They are both a credit to the cinema and an example of excellent customer service. Thanks Daisy and William!

Badly organized!
Apr 2019
We have visited the cinema with a rather large group to see the new Avengers movie (endgame) on the 27th April. The movie was played in room 1 and as we came in we had great problems to find the right seats since they were not labelled with numbers. We were even moved around by the cinema staff because they were also confused by the seat order. Everybody was annoyed which led to a really unpleasant and unfriendly mood in the cinema.
Unbelievable! Such a thing should definitely not be the case in a normal cinema.
However, the movie was good!
