Eerily beautiful

This cemetery is truly special. There is a wonderful variety of headstones, obelisks and statues. The caves and interrments in rock faces are something you're unlikely to see elsewhere. You can reach this cemetary quite easily from the City Centre on the Phoenix Park tram line. I didn't have a guide, but would recommend getting one if you go. There's so much to see and the layout is quite confusing. Take a quiet stroll... and some beautiful photos.

Weather was against us this time, nevertheless visited some amazing graves. It is just full of history one way or another. Disappointed as there was a guided tour and they were so disrespectfull trampaling everywhere but were they should have!

Filthy & Broken Cemetery...
Oct 2018 • Friends
Disappointed when I and friend of mine came to Cemetery, broken grave stones, filthy and uncleaned... No respect for the dead and loved ones. Some were forgotten and left there for more than hundred years or more.

Nootingham Civic Society Guided Walk
Sep 2017 • Friends
We took a guided tour of Rock Cemetary. If you're interested in Nottingham history and love the charm of interesting gravestones this is for you. There are many locally famous people buried here and the gravestones and family vaults have stories to tell. The Cemetery is spread over 13 acres. There are 14000 graves and some 43,000 bodies buried there. It's better known as Rock Cemetery because of its sandstone caves. There are huge crosses, stone angels and touching paupers' graves which lie in a sandpit at the edge of the cemetery, but most markers have a neglected look- stones have fallen over, graves have collapsed and moss covers many inscriptions. I found this fascinating but have given the visit 4 stars as it's not for everyone.

Fascinating

Church Cemetery (otherwise known as Rock Cemetery) is one of the most fascinating burial grounds in Nottingham. The gravestone statues are works of art and mesmerise you almost as soon as you walk in from the Mansfield Road entrance. There are multiple paths to explore and also underground caves if you can find a way into them. Well worth a visit.
